HOW TO PRINT YOUR SCRIPTS CORRECTLY
Hai, and thanks for taking the time to read this small tutorial, which will show you the few easy steps on how to print your script correctly.
Q: Why would you want to print your script?
A: There is, actually a lot of different answers to that question. One reason could be, that if you're going on a small vacation to a remote place with nothing to do, just grab your pen(s) and print your script, take them with you, and you won't have an any excuses to be bored! Another reason could be to "always have your script(s) available". I myself recently printed out a flax spinner script which I've been working on for some time now, and took one hour to study the script when it was printed out on plain paper sheets. I found over 50 errors and added over 300 lines of code!
What I am trying to say, is that when you've got your script on paper, you see things from a completely different perspective, and discover things that you normally wouldn't behind a PC.
Editing a script with a pen is a completely different scripting experience than your usual one, and not to mention that you also save money on electricity and your eyes get spared of 1-5 hour(s) in front of the computer depending on what you get out of your printed outcome.
There are two ways to do this, the first method print your script in plain black Notepad-text:
Right-click on the script you want to open, go to Open in and choose Notepad. (Or, an alternative way would be to open up the script in Scar, press CTRL + A, then press CTRL + C, go to Run... and type in Notepad.exe and finally paste your script in Notepad by pressing CTRL + V.)
This is the step where nubs phail Click File and go to Print setup.
These are the settings you're supposed to use. NO toptext or bottomtext. Paper position should be standing/portrait. All margins should be no more than 5 mm/0.2 inches! Paper size is A4, duuh.
Now go to your printer and change print quality settings to lowest/draft. This saves a lot of ink. (Especially when printing 20+ pages )
Press OK in Notepad and click File then Print.
Wait for the script to be printed, then grab a pen and get editing & commenting!
The second method prints your script in the correct font and colors:
Firstly, open SCAR as you would do regularly, but this time, hold your nose while doing it. Or else nothing will work. Open the script you want to print, and let go of your nose.
Go to Tools, and click Export script as HTML.
Enter some random name for the HTML file in A) and click B) Save. Preferably save the file to your desktop for easier access. Finally, close SCAR, minimize/close all other open windows, and go to the directory where you saved the HTML file, which in this case is the desktop.
Open the file, (preferably in FireFox 3 as I am using here) and click File, then Print setup.
In the first tab, this is what the settings should be set to. Paper position should be A) Portrait/Standing, B) should be checked, as well as C).
In the second tab, A) to F) should be set to --blank--, and G) to J) should be set to NO more than 5 millimeters or 0.2 inches each, preferable setting here is 0. Finally, when you've set those settings, click OK.
And the very final step, be sure to Preview it before going to File and clicking Print..
