Okay, well. Recently a friend gave me a riddle (code) which contained information about his crushes, etc. He gave me a few clues, and was rather dismayed when I figured it out :).

Now, I have made a riddle(code), and will give all of you two clues. The first person to get this riddle correctly wins. Although I have no prizes at the moment, if you really want, I may find something in my RS bank account :).

The four clues are....

I'm Roman
Red herring
Caesar
Box

Here is the riddle(code).

dineulsnusgwletgnnsaddascotsbdttetaheuhaiaiecnedag fwacgomaholeag

(No space inbetween dag and fwac. :))

If everybody gets stuck on these clues, I will give you more until someone finally reaches it :).

Good luck everyone.

Well thats not exactly a riddle. do you mean like some kind of a code that we have to figure out?

Dunceiam
05-17-2007, 12:21 AM
You're right, it's a code. :) Not a riddle.

(If I say anything more, that would count as a new clue :p)

i dont get it.. too hard

Dunceiam

Here guys...

It's not a letter swap. So it's not A = B or anything. It's an actual code.

(If you think about the three clues I gave, and know a bit of history, this should be easy :)).

does it involve julius caesar? thats what i figured from the hints, but i cant figure out the code :p I dont know how to find out the code, but from the hints, julius CAESAR <--- as in thats one of the hints, hes roman, and i dont know what the red herring thing is, but thats my guess.. am i right?

EDIT: It was really easy, and we dont even learn any history in our school, well not roman history, so if im right, i am suprised that someone else didnt get it before me...

3garrett3, pm me with what you got so I can see if you're right or not :).

And no C0de :).

Well, when I edit it. There isn't a space between dag and fwac yet when I look at it when posting a reply, it has a space. So I don't know...

The code is just a random sentence(s) really. From the clues you should be able to figure out that it was made by Caesar. Then I guess the next step would be to google Caesar. And then also google Red Herring :).

(Huge hint for those who've googled Caesar. The sentence(s) contain 64 letters.)

Dunceiam

Lol, I have to give others a chance to get it :). And I'm still waiting to see if you've solved it yet or not :p

Lol, sorry, but nope Stuped. As I said, it's not a simple letter replacement. It requires a certain method to solve it. :) Nice try though

Ok I have a question... does it have anything to do with The Da Vinci Code?

I dont know, and just to let others know red herring meens-A distractor that draws attention away from the real issue.

Other than that I have no idea how to solve to code, but I learned a lot in the process...I'll keep trying

~Stupedspam
P.S. Tell me if you want me to take out some parts of this post :D

Dunceiam
05-17-2007, 11:51 PM
Nothing to do with the Da Vinci code (I think...)

red herring meens-A distractor that draws attention away from the real issue.

You're right with that one :).

-Dunceiam

Anyone think they got it yet? Or need more clues?

How I did it :D
How to Decode a Caesar Box Code

There are many different types of codes. Julius Caesar was one of the first people to write in code. He invented the "Caesar cipher". The following cipher is not the Caesar cipher, but rather what cryptographers call a "columnar transposition cipher". The following cipher is also called the "Caesar Box" in Dan Brown novels, but was not used by Caesar.

Decoding a Caesar Box is not all that difficult.

Steps
1. Look at the code. Example: G T Y O R J O T E O U I A B G T

2. Count the number of letters. Here we have 16

4. We can put 16 into 4 rows of 4. If we had 25 letters we could put them into 5 rows of 5 and so on...

5. Write the letters out in 4 rows of 4 as such:
GTYO
RJOT
EOUI
ABGT

6. Read it, starting from the top left letter, and read down, then start at the next letter above.

7. Reading it, you will find out that the code says: "GREAT JOB YOU GOT IT"

Glad it got cracked tho. Pretty simple.

Dunceiam
05-18-2007, 12:22 AM
Lol, you're correct. Now, if you reread the clues, you can see that they're really obvious :).

I find it amazing how "dineulsnusgwletgnnsaddascotsbdttetaheuhaiaiecnedag fwacgomaholeag" is equal to, "Dunceiam is not a gangsta bla bla bla"

The correct translation is....

Dunceiam is not a gangsta if he was, he would be called duncesta the gangsta dog

But you were close enough :).

Good job mate :)

ya i got it too, maybe a bit slower, cause the way i did it, i had to use paint and everything, and make it easier to read for myself :p i had it done a while ago, and i went on the same site as you stuped, i admit, dunce helped me, but he only pointed out to me that it was a box thing after he gave the clue, by then i had already figured it out.. so i guess its a tie :p but you posted first so you win.

EDIT: Time for bed anyway.. i tired myself out thinking about it. night all

Dang. Nice (h)

Now, I challenge everyone to make a script to decode a Columnar Transposition Cipher :D

Dunceiam
05-18-2007, 12:58 AM
Lol, it wouldn't be too hard. (I think)

Since my phrase had 64 letters. That would be an 8x8 box. So, every 8th letter in my coded phrase should be it. For example...

dineulsnusgwletgnnsaddascotsbdttetaheuhaiaiecnedag fwacgomaholeag

And continue that. So as I said, shouldn't be too hard.

I think dankness or WT-Fakawi should add like a hide tag...(seeing it on other wbsites) so we could tell a riddle and then have the answer hidden until they click the link to open a quote box or something. This could also be used to attach files to the website and have a hide until post count= 20 or something like that :D
Just an idea

Here's a riddle... What is so fragile that it will break it if you say its name?

Dunceiam

Hmm...my girlfriends heart! :p

Seriously...hmmm....

Well, nothing physical will break if you talk to it, let alone say it's name. So..I'm guessing that it's a state of being?

*5 minutes later*

I got it!

Silence

Hehe.

~Stupedspam

But...if you eat nothing, you won't die. Imagine "nothing" as an object. You eat it once, you don't feel full nor hungrier.

Basically that sentence suggests over a longer period of time. If it was just for one meal, and you don't eat anything, you won't die...
