reliable fishing?

i've always wondered how is the best way to make a reliable fisher?
one that cannot only check for the randoms like the "piranha fish" ( whirlpool is already taken care of) but make sure that you stay fishing or checks if your still fishing or if your equipment is "lost"?

i've seen that some people use findcolorspiraltol to do these checks but arent there any other reliable methods?
