Over what?
Over any windows OS

Over any windows OS

No. Not for EVERYTHING or over any OS at all..

I mean.. I prefer 8.1 over 7.. There's some things I use 7 for (but in a VM).. I don't like some aspects of 8.1. Otherwise I use Mint 17.

But yeah, for me, 8.1 is way better than 7.

I currently use 8.1, and I have gotten used to it(with the help of third party QoL add-ons). A SSD has made it run much faster than my old 5400hdd. My favorite Windows is still XP, it is unfortunate that it doesn't support new hardware.

I was recently forced to use xp for a while, apparently it was mostly nostalgie, that os feels very outdated and limited.

I like windows 8.1 most. Very fast, easy to use and tbh I don't even think it looks that bad.

It wasn't necessarily the user experience, but the customization that i liked.

I quite liked Win 7 as well.. Could never figure out 8 with all the tiles etc. Preferred the streamlinedness

I wish windows 7 had the windows 8 task manager. That is about all I want.

I have windows 7 now and from what I've seen of 8.1 I will enjoy using that once I have a new machine. Not that there's anything about windows 7 that I don't like, but 8.1 seems to have made some small improvements in some areas (like the task manager)

I used XP until it became too outdated and I'll do the same with 7.

They've made a mistake of adverting win 8 as tablet os. Most people including me thought for a long time that win 8 had that annoying hand swiping rainbow desktop with no regular one. Now i know it does have a desktop lol but still.. not enough changes to switch the os.

I agree, once you get used to it there's just a few tweaks that I like better about Windows 8.1 (Task manager like you said, for example).

I never really used 8.0 so I can't really bash it, and honestly I don't even know what they changed from 8.0-8.1, so nothing to say there... Always exciting to see something new though!

I was about to post and ask about why they swapped 9, but that makes perfect sense Jake.
Unfortunately I'm at the point of having to upgrade family computers right now and I've always been a TinyXP guy. Switching one computer over to 7 feels like when I first tried vista. I really do wish I could stay on tinyxp forever.

What seems to be the overall feeling on 8.1, I was weary of 8.0 just from what people have said. But Griff has me thinking I might try an 8.1 install.

Wrote a driver for it the day the preview came out.. Damn.. Only then did I realise that explicit signing is required for 64-bit systems as of Windows Vista -__- Test certs no longer work (AT ALL).

And testing anything on Windows 10 is insanely hard.. WAY to many bugs.. DO NOT install this as an upgrade to your current system. There's no way to downgrade and it expires. Every few hours is a new crash. It's more hardware specific than Windows 8 and the WDM drivers suck badly! I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the tiles in the start menu itself. Hard to adjust to. Also can't get used to the start menu since I used Windows 8 for so long.. I find myself pressing the Windows button and expecting the start screen.

P.S. if you write a driver:

It costs $180 for the certificate (which is 3rd party because MS doesn't even sell their own certificates -_-) or else open yourself to a work of hurt and vulnerabilities.. Lol.

Oh yea of course I installed it as a virtual machine. :D

I have windows 8 over windows seven simply because when I bought my computer components windows 8 was new, and so it was offered to me for free, as opposed to windows 7 would have cost $100 or so for a valid product key.

I liked windows 7 better. Windows 8 was designed around having a touch screen. Maybe its just me but I don't like touch screens. Touchscreens leave fingerprints and are not practical for gaming for obvious reasons, and they don't make my computer use any more efficient/enjoyable.

8.1 is like a nice stable 8. Don't buy into all the hype. It is definitely nicer and smoother than 7, which was solid as a rock.
