What are the best over ear headphones sub 300 USD.

The person I am buying them for would listen to artists like beyonce, kayne etc. They also listen to ed sheeran, slow songs along those lines and trendy international songs (mexican songs).

Any opinions? The person is very small, ear size small, and it needs to not leak noise to the environment. sorry for lack of grammar etc very rushed.

From what I have heard:

If you're into it for sound quality and don't care about looks I would say:
Audio Technica ATH M50X should be good headphones. "should be" from what I've read they add a bit of punch to the sound. The cheaper model doesn't do this ( ATH-M40X ) it may or not be a good thing depending on what you like. They're also quite cheap +-160$ for the M50X But I'm not going to say that they're great. Many people give them awesome scores on reviews and other people are very disappointed about them. I do not own a pair myself so I would say do your own research or just buy something that someone else you know owns and is satisfied about.

I truly enjoy my SteelSeries headphones and will always recommend them. Never had any issues and sound quality is great. They do leak some noise to the outside world when they are turned up too loud, but otherwise they are excellent.

I've heard good things about these. But they are right at 300$.

In my opinion the Audio Technica ATH-M50 Monitor headphones are the absolute best studio monitor headphones for the money. They are an amazing headphone and would be very hard to beat for under $300.

I'm a DJ so proper monitoring and true sound headphones with good drivers are a must for me.

I have a pair of Pioneer HDJ-2000, love them, however I recently got some custom V-Moda Crossfade M100's and I swear by them. Best headphones I've ever used. Nearly indestructible, and have won sooo many awards. Just at your price range too.

Yea V-Moda M-100s are pretty good

the biggest cons with them would be probably the recessed mids and memory phone causing major heat and discomfort

as far as EDM goes they'd probably be up there for best competition

beyerdynamic && Audio Technica are also really good

if OP is looking at the person not moving, I'd get custom pads for M50's like:
http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-Velour-Earcushions-MDR7506-Headphones/dp/B0016MF7W2
(yes these will fit)
and throw those on
or DT 770 pros

that's if sitting in a chair for hours on end..

I definitely wouldn't get bose or beats :P

Bose and Beats are the two most over rated garbage headphones to exist. Complete productional garbage. Don't waste your time OP.

I find any recession issues with the M100 are resolved with a good soundcard to drive them.

Both brands grats brought up are great as well, I did a ton of research and product testing before settleing on the m100's and you should really do the same OP. Go to your local music store and ask to try some out. Try multiple songs and genres and see which ones really stand out to you as what you need.

Brands that I like:
- V-Moda
- Pioneer
- Sennheiser
- Audio Technica
- Beyerdynamic
- Shure

When doing your research, make sure you're looking at studio monitoring headphones. Why? Because they're the best. Period.

He's really going to have to test them out if he's buying for someone else as it seems
lot of people complain about different headphones being uncomfortable.. my M50's are 100% customized housing and paddings because my fat head, however I'm far from the only one who says they're uncomfortable.. I just ripped out everything & put some super padding on them so I can wear for a day and not die

I have the ATH-M40x headphones. They sound great and are comfortable enough to wear on a 4 hour flight. If your friend has small ears these probably will be comfortable right out of the box.

Give the Audio Technica ATH-M50x a shot.
I purchased the limited eition ATH-M50xbl's for $129 and received a free hard case.
They're comfortable, for small-medium ears, no leaking of music, and looks good if that matters.

Fellow /g/entooman.
I got Ultrasone HFI-780s. Wonderful soundstage, nice quality, overall 11/10 would wear.
Only gripe is the cord is non-removable, which the ATH-M50x fixes, by having a removable cord (note, two different companies at play here).
I'd probably spring for the M50x, mainly because cords tend to break after a while and being able to change a cord instead of having to solder it is much easier.
