Is what just in Australia? Visa paywave or contactless payments?

I have been using contactless payments in the UK for way over a year.

I just have it on my visa card for my bank account, I can also use it with applepay on my iphone so I don't even need my card with me.

This seems extremely unsecure, and I would not trust a card like that with my money.

IIRC there is a £30 limit on a transaction, and you can only do it a few times a day.

I think the limit is $100.00. AUD

My gf has a bad habit of leaving her card at the shops; or anywhere for that matter. The added stress of knowing the card could be picked up and used instantly. Has her running around like a mad man, the bank do refund it in most cases; the refund process is 1-2 months.

Recently i was informed by the bank that PAYPASS is in fact co-opt by mastercard and visa. They actually charge the bank for using it, but i'm guessing the banks don't mind as most people cannot save, and this is just one step so they spend money quicker, therefore onto the credit card.

In Australia there is now a culture of getting a credit card as soon as possible.
The smart chip on these card also can be used to grab card details using portable card scanning devices - just look on the dark net.

Alternative - Go buy the largest possible magnet you can find! and leave it on the chip over night. This will destroy the chip and you can no longer pay pass and will have to swipe the card every-time. Problem solved!

Contactless payment is super popular in the UK and you can even use it to pay for your travel in London (rather than using an "Oyster" card which is a pay-as-you-go top-up card that can only be used on public transport).

Interesting(ish) fact about the £30 limit is that it was increased from £20 as it was identified that £25 was the average supermarket spend. :p

I do this, can confirm, fucks up your card's edges.

In London, there have been quite a few incidents where topping up your oyster card for the tube has also taken it off of your card ;)

oyster cards are pretty useless with contact-less payment now though.

Yeah. I find it really weird that you can't use change on buses though, I don't like living in a cashless society!

We've had the "tap" in Canada for a while now. For debit at least, you can set the limit to what ever you want.

I have a student oyster card which makes me eligible for a 30%(?) discount on travel cards (weekly, monthly, yearly tickets). I don't get the discount with my contactless card.
Oysters aren't quite obsolete yet! :p
