Hey guys, looking to purchase a domain and was wanting to know if there are any places better than the others? Also, would it be a good idea to get the domain at a host because if so, do you have a recommendation there?

I'll be using this domain as a clothing store but I'm not sure if that effects what host I should choose?

Cheers guys!

I'd use GoDaddy for both. Probably cheapest and easiest solution.

I agree. Wouldn't go anywhere else to be honest. Godaddy's Cpanel is also useful to start with.

Has GoDaddy picked up from how it used to be because I see the last dated post on that antiGoDaddy site is from the start of last year..?

Also you could register your domain on whois.com and epichosts.co.uk provide pretty cheap plans with unmetered disk space and bandwidth.

trentahost.com is fairly good, but they have some down time every once in a while.

ovh.com is good if you know how to use linux and install a web server that way (500 gb dos prot.)

if you're new to everything, i'd go with a simple host for now until you need something more experienced. as i said go daddy provides a lot of tools for noobies

Cheers Lucidity and Maven, a question to all though; Which domain registrar allows no fee(preferably) for transferring, gives you 100% ownership and also has no hidden fees that might pop up in the future? I've concluded that these will be my deciding factors!

I use namecheap, I researched it last year and at the time I heard that godaddy's customer support wasn't great & had hidden fees with regards to moving. I would say that you have to be aware of sale prices, make sure to check the renewal price, they sort of suck you in with a cheap price for a year then go full price after. Nearly all of the Registrars offer free services for the first year so be aware that if you want them afterwards you'll need to pay extra.

Namecheap's public image got hit recently: http://www.postphp.com/namecheap-livechat-social-engineering-leads-to-loss-of-2-vps/

I ended up going with Namecheap for the first year, I might switch next year but that depends... that article is kinda concerning, although I'd say it's a pretty big one off and most likely the result of a personal vendetta. Really appreciate the help!

name.com for domain names or enom

other than that they're all pretty much garbage all around or in different places

never use godaddy is it complete shit and have fun being part of their frequent hacked sites

run your own vps for web

Wow..got a TL;DR for that?

All I could capture from those words was the picture of the owner killing an elephant.

I've used godaddy since forever, as for host I stick with hostgator. Both work well
