For this brief tut, I presume you all have PhotoShop. If not, then skip this tut.

So you want to create Bitmaps for Scar? I will use a Symbol from FindSymbol as example. Not my credits, but stupid3ooo's.

What we need first is a grid.

http://old.villavu.com/Pictures/PSTut/1.jpg

Set Grid to these values.

http://old.villavu.com/Pictures/PSTut/2.jpg

Next, copy a RS picture (Select RS-Window/press Alt-prt Scr/goto Photoshop, press crtl-N/ hit enter and press crtl v) and set grid on using
crtl-' and zoom in using z

http://old.villavu.com/Pictures/PSTut/3.jpg

Now select the part you need using m crop the part you need using crop...

http://old.villavu.com/Pictures/PSTut/4.jpg

Yes. Bitmap's ready!

http://old.villavu.com/Pictures/PSTut/8.jpg

Now, do Save As... and Select .BMP...

http://old.villavu.com/Pictures/PSTut/6.jpg

...and set the values to 32 bits

http://old.villavu.com/Pictures/PSTut/7.jpg

Done. You will never miss a pixel again. You can create simple pixelaccurate Bitmaps from anything that is static.

And now for the FindSymbol Trick:
count till eight: ColorPick that color and use that as reference for FindSymbol.

if (lowercase(Name) = 'water source') or (lowercase(Name) = 'water') then
begin
Bitmap := BitmapFromString(15, 5, 'z78DAA5CF410A80300C44' +
'D12B25B6A964E9907AFF2329CC42A5448A12F874111EA9A89 C830' +
'A438C6DB646B7A51BF6C27A75F3C8F659D16BE665F68F7C37 B121' +
'3AF8162D2DE2FDF21999E628B3DFE4C7DF1339BB9CE601EA0 F684' +
'0');
Color := 14497281; <---- REFCOLOR: PIXEL 8,0 from upperright
end;

Small tut, easiest way for me to explain.

Nice tutorial Faka. ;)

I was wondering what you were using to get that gridded map.
I seen It in your dynamic flag thread.

Its the same for any other program like paintshop pro. or even paint :p
All you do is cut the image you want, I believe that its easier with photoshop. but it is possible with paint.

Heres how to do it with paint:

press (windows start key) + R
run command window will come up and type: mspaint
easy way to start it(windows xp)
then open your image you want to decrease.

Do this.
http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/2408/namnlseq2.png
PS:
Make sure u zoom in and select the exact pixel as you want.
you dont want it to search for trash so take more time on it.
Use zoom tool to left and select (1x1).

And save as: .bmp
(else scar cant read it.)

If any questions feel free to ask me.

An alternative program that can be used is Irfanview. This is a REALLY easy to use graphics viewer, and it's totally FREE! I've used it for like 10 years and I love it for simple graphics stuff.
Go to www.irfanview.com to download it.
To make a bitmap, just do a screen cap using the PRT SC key on your keyboard, then open Irfanview and do EDIT>PASTE (or CTRL-V will work also). You should see the screen cap in Irfanview.
Then once you find the icon you want to save, click and hold your mouse to drag a box around the symbol. If it doesn't come out correct, hit the escape key to try again. It doesn't have to be exact. Once you have the box around the symbol, then click Edit>Crop Selection (or use Ctrl-Y) to crop out the part of the picture you don't need.
Now, you should see two buttons at the top of irfanview that look like magnifying glasses and one has a plus sign, that will let you zoom in. Once you have zoomed in, then you want to crop it again so that you can get it as small as possible, just repeat the steps above, drag a box around the symbol then crop. You may have to zoom in again. You can also hold the mouse over the croplines to adjust them in or out to get them exactly where you want them. Now you should have the symbol with as little background as possible. Hit the F12 key or do Edit>Show Paint Dialog to bring up the paint toolbox.
At the bottom of the paint toolbox there is a pair of rectangles, click on either one and it will bring up the color picker. Pick black (Usually bottom left of the basic colors) then click okay. Now look at the two colors at the bottom of the paint toolbox, the black should be in front of whatever the other color is, it should be overlapping, if it isn't use the two headed arrow that will let you flipflop the colors so that the black is now in front.
Now click the paintbrush tool at the top right of the paint toolbox. It looks like a brush obviously. Now if you are zoomed way in on your picture, you can use the paintbrush to turn any remaining background colors to black. Once you have them all blacked out, you can click on File>Save As, then choose a name for the file, choose BMP as type of file to save, and then choose a location where you want to save it.

This may seem like a lot of steps but after you do it a couple times you will be amazed at how quickly you can do it. It only takes me about 10 or 15 seconds to do one.

I would recommend the GIMP now these days.
