I'm sorry if someones already asked this, I searched but I couldn't find anything that I could understand

As you can tell, I don't know much about computers. I have some questions.
What is UID.dat/Random.dat?
Where is UID.dat/Random.dat stored?
When should I delete UID.dat/Random.dat?

Sorry for being such a noob :D

UID.dat has been changed to Random.dat. UID.dat does not exist anymore.

I think there might be a few differences for Random.dat than there was for UID.dat, but im not quite sure of them.

Thanks a heap :D

So I only need to worry about this if I have more than one character logged on at a time?

I'm not quite sure I understand your question.

If you are dual-logging, you will want to have one character on signed client, and another on unsigned.

I don't understand

even if you delete that .dat file, i think jagex now stores it on memory in their servers now.

They store it, but when you delete it, they have to assign you a new one, because it's possible that you are just another computer on the same network.

That's assuming that you use the unsigned client.

I'm not quite sure I understand your question.

If you are dual-logging, you will want to have one character on signed client, and another on unsigned.

So If I have one character on a signed and one on an unsigned, jagex won't be able to ban me for dual-logging unless I don't delete my Random.dat?

Where is Random.dat actually stored?

random.dat and UID.dat are stored at C:/WINDOWS/.jagex_cache_34, C:/WINDOWS/.jagex_cache_32 and/or C:/WINDOWS/.file_store_32 i believe... On some computers (like mine (Gateway)) it is C:/WINNT... instead of C:/WINDOWS but everything else is the same.

And if you use unsigned and signed they CAN ban you for multi-logging but it is harder for them to tell if you multi-logged. The unsigned client doesn't store things on your computer (doesn't store UID.dat or random.dat.) This means that the Signed client uses the UID.dat and the unsigned one runs off a temporary uid that gets removed after the session (or something like that, I think that is how it works) so they have different uids. The UID is how they track different accounts from the same computer.

And Munchkin the "when do I delete it" question is really up to you. I suggest you delete it after logging off your autos if you are going to log onto your main, and after you log off your main delete it before going onto your auto accounts.

If i messed this up, I'm sorry. That is how I'm pretty sure it works after reading every thread about it I could find.

EDIT: Also some people are saying that if you open random.dat with notepad and delete it and make the file read only that Jagex can't do anything but heres proof that they will just keep trying... They just make a new one in a different place each time you do it. Just keep deleting it I guess.
