Alright, I was looking through TigerDirect and saw the eMachines W3615 for $299. I first ignored it due to eMachines usually sucking, but then I read on the info that it had a Intel P4 3.0ghz, 1gb of DDR2 RAM, 120gb hdd, and a DVD-RW drive all for $299.

I know eMachines power supplies suck, but I can swap them very easily.

My only reason for getting this is that one of my clients is looking for a home computer and I really don't want to build him one because I know I would over do it.

I mean c'mon $299 for an ok sized chunk of power. I know its refurbished, but I have never had a problem with refurbished goods from Tiger yet.(over 2 years of use)

I can't even build it for this cheap. What is the catch?

Any reviews on it or info I need to know?

No I dont think it has onboard video card. My eMachines doesnt.

My review on eMachines.

THEY SUCK!

They give you piece of crap mother boards that are worse then the power supply. My power supply is starting to go and its only like a year and a half old. Also they installed the USB port in the front upside down >.< Dunno how that managed to screw that one up but they did..

I agree with Hobbit, eMachines suck. In my personal opinion, HP's are the best...

wow.

did i actually see somebody commending hp/dell? the gigantic corporations ruining the computer world? i just died a little inside:p

Emachines was created to be a low-grade computer company. Gateway bought it out so they could have there standard high-grades, and a lower-grade for the 'not-so-rich' market. I personally love Emachines. They are cheap, they dont include anything i dont need (e.g. 4-in-1 card readers, super useful HP software), and if a part does go, they are not proprietary. I actually use an upgraded one as my server, and its ran for almost 4 years now without failing, and usually goes about 2-3 months between restarts. If you havent figured it out, i have a bach. degree in Networking. So obviously Emachines are not for everyone, but dont say they are bad, because all you are saying is that your knowledge of computers is bad. Anyways, I tend to ramble so im gonna end this.

yeah but if your wondering why that computer is so cheap, I believe Acer is buying out Gateway right now and they are going to discontinue all emachines.

Wow, some-one is knowledgable on the subject of e-machines =)

I'd reccommend an alienware desktop if you have the money. True quality pcs. You do pay a bit for a brand name I guess...

No not the Opteron Quad-core, thats their server version. They were making a Athlon Quad-core, they did some pre-release stuff and it didn't get upto what they projected and hoped so they pushed back the release to figure out what went wrong.

The cheapest is to put the PC together by yourself - Always. Also it's good because you can choose best components.

One of the cheapest (less then 200$ in Estonia), but good quality:

CPU: AMD Sempron 64 3000+ AM2 Inbox
Motherboard: Foxconn Socket AM2 A690VM2MA-RS2H
RAM: A-DATA DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz 512MB
Case and PSU: Asus mATX TM982
HDD: Western Digital Caviar WD800AAJS 80GB 7200rpm 8MB NCQ SATA 3Gb/s
CD/DVD: Samsung DVD-RW/DVD+RW SH-S203B

But I have no idea, how are the prices in America. I think they should be even cheaper.

I am not a big fan of Semrons. Yeah its 1.8ghz but 128kb of cache? Yeah right.

Well, it's your decision. Just tried to help, thats all. :D
The sempron can handle most of the stuff, what needs to be done.

I'm not a AMD fan either, i'd use Intel E2140, but it's a bit more expensive.

I used to have an emachine.. I didnt like it that much. The first day i got it the power button got stuck inside the computer and it kept restarting over and over... Now I have a Dell and it is my bestest friend :)
