View Full Version : Who is your Internet Service Provider?

I just made this thread to see how many different isp's there are out there. Write more about your internet, if you can.
Personally, I use Bell Sympatico, 5Mb/s Down, 1Mb/s Up, No Bandwidth cap.
They do throttle bittorrent and peer to peer technologies, but not by much.
Teetormaja - it won't tell you anything... Speed is quite good actully.
Worldwide Down/Up 4Mb/Sec.
Inside the ISP providers network, speed is 12Mb/Sec Up/Down.
Free to open ports, if you like.
Costs only 20 dollars a month.
No limits for bandwidth.

Max up is about 10 mbps (theoretically 16 mbps, I believe)
Max down is about 4 mbps
'Unlimited bandwidth', but they have terminated some accounts for overuse, but from what I've heard, they were in the hundreds of gigabytes for multiple months in a row, so I don't blame Comcast.
Fifty bucks a month. AFAIK, no p2p throttling.

I'm the only one who actually uses it. (And it's not coming from a cable :( )
Service provider, elisa.

Verizon Internet Services...
~700kb up, 300 kb down...
hopefully we're getting Fios (cable, phone, internet package) soon, which is 5mb up and 2mb down, but comcast just dropped our bill 30 bucks and gave us free HBO.

Well, luckily i have faster internet than I did before (used to use dial-up V.92 w/bell sympatico), but it's still slow compared to other people who have like 10Mb/s or faster. It almost seems faster speeds aren't available in canada.
Also, I think that Verizon's FiOS is a HUGE ripoff if it only goes up to 5Mb/s. Technically, Fibre Optics used for communication can have speeds up to 50 Gb/s.
(Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiber-optic_communication)
http://www.speedtest.net/result/199652036.png (http://www.speedtest.net)
Speedtest.net is inaccurate, as I've never gotten a download speed about 310 KB/s, or an upload speed over 150 KB/s.

Guys you live on ''big houses'' rite? I mean, i live in country:) -.-
35Kbs/s down :)
That's like 100 times slower than yours;) , but it comes from air not from wire;)

Oh, trust me, country houses are a hell of a lot bigger than city houses of the same price.
I had a country house with 50 acres of land, it went so far back. It was a huge house, and probably about $100 000. Now, my backyard is a joke, and the house is really small. It cost more than $300 000.

I like FiOS, innovation, speed, reliability, less downfalls than cable, and cheap.
Nontitle, those super fast fiberoptics also take super expensive equipment.
By the way - "Recently, bit-rates of up to 14 Tbit/s have been reached over a single 160 km line..."

This is much faster than last time I tested I believe.
Edit: BTW. This is wireless. The internet is currently used for each of our 4 computers, Two connected via wires, two wireless. This connection has a "poor" signal reception as well (1 bar). I am assuming if I used the wired computers, it would be much faster, right?

That would be true if you were in Japan or somewhere else with super fast connections, but as your 11 MBit/s is much below the bandwidth capacity of most wireless networks there would not be a significant different via wired.
(Unless you had a sexy fiber connection :))

Optus- Unlimited downloades, 12000mb, then slows down at no extra cost. And fomr 12pm-12am we get offpeak-24000mb but that doesnt get used if we use 12000mb of normal
