Internet on my VM?

How do I get the internet on my VM? I have the VM set up except I can't seem to get the internet to work. I am using a wireless router. I have a usb wireless thing plugged into my computer and the modem thing is plugged into my dads.

Depend on which VM Program you are using. On MS Virtual Machines, select the network icon on the program (not the vm screen) and select the option that is similar to piggyback on host computers network adapter
