How do i download and set up linux?

well i've just brought a brand new laptop, and on my other tread, i asked some few question about linux and scar's compatebility, and i've decided to go for it, but when i get to linux's website (linux.com)and there alot of stuff avalible to download, so can any one tell me which ones to download and also how to set it up? (ONLY IF THERE'S SOME SORT OF SPEICAL THINGS NEEDIT:spongebob:

First choose a distribution (distro), then download and install that. If you choose something like ubuntu it's like pressing I got a laptop, next, next, next, installed :D
For laptops you might wanna visit http://linux-laptop.com/ as it'll provide you with usefull information about the combination of your laptop and Linux.
And Linux.com isn't the website, it's http://www.kernel.org/ ;)

oookkaayy? well i couldn't understand what do i have to do on http, so i just choses ftp, so do i copy every thing that's on there?

you have to install it.
also, if you dont like kernel, i'd suggest ubuntu =D
so.. ubuntu.com , download it , install , enjoy.. nothings too hard..
