You might want a keyboard and mouse. And a monitor is always nice. :)
I suppose you can sit there and listen to it hum...
And you'll probably want a surge protector of some sort to protect it from power spikes.
Wizzup?

Oh come on Hobbit. You have a lot of junk you don't need. That case is ridiculously expensive. You're buying windows? Just download it. Your PSU is ridiculously expensive.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811208009 -- Case. Free Shipping, $29.99, Gaming Chassis (LCD w/ Window on side). 4 Eggs out of 5. How can you really go wrong?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817184007
PSU
There's a lot of choices for PSU, so you make the choice, but all you really need is 500W, and you can get one of those for maybe $100 less. Look for deals!

I said I wasn't done looking yet :p
But thanks for that newegg site!
[idiot question] In the case, the rear I/O panel can be replaces right  cause all the mother boards im looking at have diff I/O panels so I'm assuming you can change them on the cases?[/idiot question]

I don't like your Radeon. I am not partitial to either Radeon or NVIDIA, I just go for which is better for the price.
Go with the XFX Nvidia 8600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150229
May only have 256mb but its GDDR3 and it will do a hell of a lot better than your 512mb DDR2 on any gaming. And it saves you 10$.
Now your case. Your case style I HATE. Bottom PSU designs are a miserable failure on air cooling. PSU's draw are in from inside your case and blow it out the back of the case. Essentially adding another fan to your case, cooling it. When it is run at the bottom it is just sucking the cool air out of your case instead of sucking the hot air out like a top mounted PSU would.
It looks cool, but remember the practicalities of it. The UV fans WILL get annoying if you sleep anywhere near it. Doubtful that it will come with very quiet fans too. 120mm may be quieter but usually when they come with a case they are quite loud anyways because they are cheap crappy fans.
Much better case here.

9.99 after rebates!!!! $54 case. Good reviews all around. And I own this case on one of my LAN'ers. It kicks ass. It may not have all the lights and gadgets but it gets the job done. It has a side window if you do want to light it up. Great case, even has the water cooling ports with it.
WD HDD. I would have gone with a Seagate by previous experience.
I don't have time to look at much else. I will later though.

Chyeah boi. They all do. The motherboard comes with it's own I/O Panel. Don't worry :), I didn't know you could change them until I found it in my box like 30 minutes, wondering what to do when I first made a computer.
You didn't know about Newegg? It's the best online computer site. All their stuff is pretty cheap, but great quality. Amazing and fast shipping. Just the pricing and quality makes the place tough to beat. The site is VERRRRRY navigable as well. That could be my favorite part. So many options/filters you can set. Tigerdirect.com just doesn't have that.

And I don't really need that great of a graphics card. I'm not planning on doing major gaming.
I think I got it down to $600 from new egg, even with better case, optical drive, video card, 4 GB ram
Edit: Nvm forgot hard drive... will post new egg comparison in a few min

Yes I've made sure everything is compatible.
I took out the PCI -> USB (5), mouse and keyboard.
Because I'm gonna cash in my warrenty on the computer I'm on right now into Best Buy (~$600) then get better mouse + keyboard and if I need the extra USB i can install later. Also probably get another monitor and some cool gadgets since Best Buy sends me a Gift card for the warranty...
Price is now $739.48 With shipping :)
And yes 4GB Ram :) + Quad Core AMD Phenom

Since you want AMD (good choice for gaming, and just overall better :)), http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103226 $200 for Quad-Core, can't be beaten.

The Intel Quad core > AMD Quad. I've read up on both, Intels is way more stable however, AMD can be overclocked as always (just get a monster Heat Sink).
Hobbit
01-27-2008, 04:00 AM
Intel always boots their clock speeds to above what average would get anyways...
And thats the AMD I'm planning on getting ;)
I think I need to change the Heatsink though, need to make sure its AM2+ Compatible
Edit: It say AM2 Compatible and the processor is AM2+....will it still fit???
None say Phenom compatible :( There must be atleast one...
Edit2: FOUND ONE!!!! THERE IS ONLY ONE TYPE.... adds $50.00 onto price though...

Sometimes there are reasons to spend on a case.
If you are like me, you want a case where you have room to work and can swap parts quickly. Also, running for days on end and staying cool and quiet (especially if in the bedroom) means you want a well designed case, such as the Antec P180.
Remember the AM3 procs will be able to go into an AM2 board, so if you are planning to upgrade later, you can get a lower end AM2 proc for now.
Which OS are you putting on that supports 4 gigs?

You'll want to get some Arctic Silver or similar thermal compound.
Narcle
01-27-2008, 10:25 AM
I got a full tower in my room. Runs WoW, MSN msger, firefox etc. 24/7. I got the Arctic Silver compound on it with a uber copper heat sink/fan. I don't run the fan at full power otherwise its almost as loud as a vacuum cleaner. However one time I forgot to plug the fan all the way back in... (oops) Left it like that for a day but it never turned off! I checked the temp it only got to 55c.
The case fans combined are louder then the cpu fan. Its a set back in my room... but I'm use to it, plus it has served my computer well; I've had it for 2-3 years now still going strong.
After my experience with Intel core duo 2, its so damn amazing that I'll probably go with the Quad for my next desktop... I might wait a year and see what comes out then, but I might have to step it up if I plan on doing this internet business.
I'm waiting so see if Intel will come out with one of their new chips soon. Or if one of the companies will create a cell chip for computer usage. The cell chip is being used already but not in computers. It has 30x the power of the current top end CPU chips.
