well i sort of narrowed it down to NOD and Kaspersky. Then i saw some good things about antiVir and F-secure

but i'm still leaning towards NOD and kaspersky. So if anyone would tell me their oppinion about which one i should get (my mom is buying it so its the non-free ones :p)

EDIT: or pointing out the pros/cons of each :)

malotthouse

You should get Avg. its the best antivirus software for free on the market.

but if your content on one of those two, go with kaspersky. its better than NOD hands-down

lolololol any free anti virus sucks go with Windows live one care.(http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/default.htm) its something like 50 bucks a year, can go on up to 3 ( or 5 i forget ) comps or laptops in your house. you can run scheduled tune ups that check for viruses, defrag and back up your hard drive, and get rid of uesless files. You can also of course run virus scans. its made right by Microsoft so the support is good. comes with fire wall...

ive had it a year and had no problems so far. remember, you get what you pay for.

What FEAR said, Zone Alarm all the way.

I found a free key for it, and it has always allowed me to update it over the net. It won't expire until year 2153.

I use Zone Alarm Security Suite on my 2 main computers. Its Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam. I run on dial-up and it actually speeds up my connection because I set security to high and manually monitor my connection. I control every program that accesses the net or tries too.

@AVG
It sucks now, don't use it!

I call it: "Brain".

malotthouse

Norton= no. no. no. it leave a crapload of junk on your computer, and is very very hard to replace if you have it.

zone alarm= an okay program, i had it after norton on my laptop... it gets annoying though with all the popups.

windows live=sucks
@bullzeye95: i love you for saying that ;)

avg=best freeware. end of story. even if you hate it.

kaspersky=best of all. okay maybe not bestest. avg is up there. if i had a choice id pick avg. but if your going to only choose from your list, pick kaspersky

@dan-I didn't vote b/c avg was my vote. if you want me to vote, ill pick kaspersky out of those.

@narcle- rofl 2153? will we even need virus protection then?

You forgot to rate 'Brain'. Its been proven most effective against twelve year old hacker's viruses, but it's effectiveness may vary against other forms.

well there are different versions of 'brain'. You for instance probably have a v83.5(the latest version). My mom has 61.4 and has a very slow updating speed. and my dad has only 15.2...he cant update(trail version)

so 'brain' isnt a very good solution for me...Which is why i need a good one for all people :)

I've actually traveled into the future and retrieved v9129387.1232.13213235543.1; I'm pretty much set.

You *might* be able to get Ben to order his aliens to monitor your computer, they'll blow up the creator of said found virus. Or... Get him to post here.

NOD32 rapes your memory...

Dan Cardin
02-17-2008, 10:02 PM
then i think that pretty much settles it because it was pretty much between kaspersky and nod. and so far i like kaspersky(not that ive tried the 30 day trial for NOD), and if NOD is a memory hog then i can live withou it :)

EDIT: plus kaspersky has 11 votes :)

AVG is a fairly decent antivirus software...but I'm going with the newest version of Norton Antivirus. Regardless of what people think, Norton '07 got some really good ratings (I read PC World magazine and it was rated top antivirus).

that IS the virus... lol norton laggs every machine known to man,
uses so much resources,
costs money....,
hard to get rid of totally,
too noob friendly,
general intrusive behaviour

as u can tell me dislikes norton :P but AVG FTW!!! lol

The new Norton doesn't use as many resources as its predecessors, but yeah I'll agree that it still slows down the system (only when it runs a full system scan though...everything else is much better). It's not expensive to me since I get it for free...through my special ways ;)
It's also gotten pretty good at finding viruses, spyware, and other shit that you don't want.
AVG is good though..and it's free for everyone! Woohoo!:)

AVG. I dont see why people hate it.

Norton never actually caught anything on my computer. And it always told me to disable any internet protection and firewalls from Windows. So it let everything through and err... NEVER caught it.

Go with AVG, or Brain. My brain is the latest version. My dads is erm.. non existant actually (He thought Java was malicious >.>)
