i just ordered a insprion laptop. since my mom got a laptop too, i was on a 911 dollar credit including shipping and tax ( 6% !!! ). the laptop i got was only OK because of the credit. i wouldnt go as far as to say shitty, it was decent. not great. i wanted to no if i could but more ram etc, for a laptop like you would do for a desktop.

You can. On my laptop it has a little panel underneath with a screw hole, open and boom more ram cards :D. It is a lot tougher than a Desktop. If you are a nub, bringing it to a computer store is your best bet ;)
Or buy a new laptop :p

the thing is on dell for the first 6 months they give you 2000 dollars "credit". you pay this credit off monthly. If you surpass the 2000 limit you cant pay it off monthly anymore. when my mom bought hers 4 months ago, she left 911 dollars credit, so i went to buy one i only had 911 dollars. ( minus 80 bucks for s/h tax etc ). so i made a laptop with 800 bucks. when it comes in, i just want to buy some more ram and memory. my dads good with comps so he can do it. so it is possible right?

Well, the computer I used to add ram onto was from 2001 :/ Unless Dell changed something, it should work.

Yep, ram is very easy to add on laptops. When you first open it up, go ahead and open up the ram compartment on the bottom. Almost all laptops have room for two RAM chips. You may already have both slots filled, depending on the configuration you ordered.
DDR2 RAM is one of the cheapest things you can upgrade these days.
You can get a 1 gb chip for $15 after a $10 rebate.

Or you can go all the way up to 4 gb (Two 2gb chips) for $65 after a rebate, or $74 without doing rebates.

Of course you have to make sure you're getting the right kind of RAM! Don't just buy some random chip, find out what's compatible first.
For example, my laptop maxes out at 2gb memory, so buying a 4gb kit would be a pretty stupid.

I don't know if this is still the case... but when i bought ram for my computer 1-2 years ago I had to buy RAM that was made for laptops. So if that is still how it works make sure you buy RAM that will work on your laptop and not a desktop!

I bought ram for my 'gateway' laptop, if you are going to buy ram best bet to go into the computer store and let them run a check, best to be safe than sorry. :)
