I just want some suggestions

* Case - Cooler Master CM 690 Mid Tower Case w/Front USB, FireWire, Audio, eSATA Ports
* Power Supply - Cooler Master eXtreme Power 600W Power Supply
* Motherboard - eVGA nForce 650i Ultra (T1 Version) (Core 2 Duo/Quad) PCI-E Socket 775 Motherboard
* Processor - AMD Athlon64 X2 6000+ (3.0 GHz) Dual-Core Socket AM2 Processor
* Memory - G.Skill Extreme F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ 2GB PC2-6400 DDR2 Kit
* Hard Drive 1 - Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 160GB - ATA100 IDE Hard Drive - OEM
* Optical Drive - LG GCR-8525B (Black) 52x CD-ROM - OEM
* Video Card 1 - eVGA e-GeForce 9600 GT Superclocked 512MB PCI-Express
* Video Card 2 - eVGA e-GeForce 9600 GT Superclocked 512MB PCI-Express

Im using Sli with two 9600's, from the reviews and such, that ive seen, two of them easily over power the 8800gtx. The total of this machine with taxes is
$1,113.90. I already have a 22" monitor. Im making this computer strictly for gaming on counter strike and day of defeat. If you live in canada and want some sweet deals go www.anitec.ca.

Is their anything different i should do? I do not want an intel processor because they are way over priced right now.

Intel and much less efficient when over clocked and AMD's are usually at least in my experiences much more durable than Intel's.

Your Optical drive and Hard drive are old technologies. I would go for at least DVD capable disc drive and a SATA capable hard drive.

G.Skill is great RAM. At least so far in my experience.

When he says you need an Intel CPU, he's telling the truth. Not just because they are better (they are), but also because the motherboard you selected is socket 775 (Intel). If you tried to plug an AM2 chip into that motherboard, it's not going to work, ever.

So you either need to change your CPU to a socket 775 Intel to be compatible with your motherboard, or you need to change you motherboard to be socket AM2 to be compatible with your AMD CPU.

g-skill ram is pretty good, but you know...its so cheap now a days I would go with 4 gigs anyway.... :p
as for the vid cards, nice choice :) new technology
Great CPU, my roommate got one and OC'd it to 3.25GHz running at like 13C
looks like a good setup!
you're looking at www.newegg.com right?
I get all computer stuff from there

EDIT:
oh yeah, like....Mr Klean said (i think :p) get yourself a SATA HDD, and they even make SATA optical drives too, so those are the things I would change.
and I'm a pirate :p so I'd get a bigger HDD, but you're solely playing those 2 games you wouldn't need it

the first post it said www.anitec.ca which to me sounds like a rip off of www.antec.com

Brain
03-09-2008, 04:47 AM
They look like they are totally different sites, I don't think that a computer parts dealing website would ripoff a name from one single manufacturer.
Anitec probably has some sort of meaning, while Antec has some other, jsut because they are similar does not mean that one was ripped from the other.
and if one was ripped off...why would one assume that Antec came first?:stirthepot:

Speaking of new computers, I threw together some pieces from newegg and this is what I came up with for myself-

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core $239.99
ASUS P5N-T Deluxe LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Motherboard $249.99
G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Ram $149.99
Thermaltake W0106RU Complies with ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V version 700W Power Supply $154.99- $40 mail rebate

That's pretty much the basics, and as of right now I would easily take an intel over an amd, especially the processor listed above. Reports show that it is easily o'ced to over 4 Ghz, on air cooling, although I wouldn't risk that much. The mobo is pretty pricey, but it can support up to tri-sli configuration. Might want to wait for the 790i boards as I hear they will support DDR2 ram as well as DDR3 (future insight). As far as the case/HD/video cards go, do whatever you what and what suits you, just remember with the video cards, why have two when you can have three? lol

My choices:
HD:
Western Digital Raptor WD360ADFD 36GB 10,000 RPM SATA 1.5Gb/s Hard Drive $94.99
Case:
XCLIO Windtunnel Fully Black Finish 1.0 mm SECC Chassis ATX Full Tower Computer Case $109.99 - The cooling power of this thing is just insane!

Forgot to mention, if you want to use more than 4GB of ram in any windows system, your going to have to get the 64-bit version. I have 4GB in the computer I have now and it only shows 3.3GB ram.

You don't want intel eh.

Disk Drive:
Pioneer DVD+/- DVD Burner--writes dvds and cds and can read those as well

Case:
Cooler Master 830 Stacker

Hard Drive:
WD RaptorX 150gb
Seagate 500gb

Keyboard:
Logitech G15

Mouse:
If you can get it the logitech g7
the g5 is also good
Razer Deathadder is another good choice

Monitor:
BenQ or Samsung, Hanns-G is also another good option

Motherboard:
ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590SLI

Processor:
You said you had it the AMD Athlon 64 X2 3.0GHz AM2

Graphics card:
This could go many ways
Dual 8800ultra or just one
Dual 8800GTX or just one
Dual 8800GT or just one
Any other type of graphics card

Memory:
OCZ SLI-Ready Edition 4gb(2 x 2gb) DDR2 800
or
OCZ Reaper HPC 2gb (2 x 1gb) ddr2 800--I'd go with this, cheaper and better timings but then if you wanna get two of these packs then yeah, it'd be more than the first ones

CPU Cooling:
ZALMAN 9700 NT 110mm

Power Supply:
Sparkle R-spi900gcm 900w
or
Thermaltake Toughpower 1200w SLI and ATI Crossfire certified

And don't change your processor to Socket 775, change your Board to AM2 (and be sure to keep PCI-E). It's way more popular and will be around longer.

dont go with the geforce 9 series, they are more expensive than the 8 series and about the same. buy two 8800 GTS 512 mb, it'll be cheaper and much better, the benchmarks i've seen from the 9 series made me laugh at all the people that actually skipped the 8 series so they could get the 9

No reason to get an obsolete IDE CD-ROM when an SATA DVD Burner is just as cheap.

No reason to get an obsolete 7200.9 IDE Hard Drive when a 7200.10 SATA one is just as cheap.

I wouldn't get IDE at all. It's old technology. The only reason new motherboards still support it is because people already own them and want to be able to use them when they upgrade. But when you're building a new system from scratch, stick with SATA. It's much more future proof. So when you upgrade next time you will be able to continue using them and won't have to throw them in the trash or settle for a motherboard loaded down with legacy interfaces.

I'm sorry but over-clocking isn't even worth it anymore. I live by computers and Intel is beating AMD. Go look at the benchmark charts: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html -Notice a pattern?

If your going to make a economical yet powerful computer I would go with Intel's Quad core Q6600 CPU. Its only $255 on newegg and kicks AMD ass; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017

I admit I do love AMD, but I would rather get a Intel that will last a couple more years then a AMD that will be under the market in half the time. However, I'm only stating the facts. If you can afford another $100 for a CPU I would go with Intel over AMD.

I would get a different power supply just cause cooler master's aren't that great, maybe an OCZ StealthXStream 600w, only 20 bucks more.

if you are planning to put maybe another card in your computer later on you should get a better psu

you definitely need more ram maybe 3 or 4gig. I'm not sure but I'm think that you would want a bigger power supply maybe 550 or 600 watts

intel sucks for gaming even if u OC them they arent very effiecent

Now days your dead wrong, amd = crap right now.

Id keep same setup minus the AMD Processor and pop in a q6600 =P
If you looking for a nice after market cooler get a tuniq tower!

2gb is fine if your running an XP system, But if you think yo dah shyt and want a dx10 machine then by all means get like 4-8gbs =D especially since Memory is cheap now days get about 8gb for about 200
