I don't really get the point of being portable, i have scar 3.12c,b 3.13, 3.14 on my usb, i just carry it with me, and i can still use it when i put it on other comps

I haven't looked at it, but I'm guessing it's so you can put it on a usb and use it on any PC without having to install Scar?

But M A I N FTW said he has normal SCAR on his usb drive...

hmm if this was true then we could play Runescape at school (not like i would of though) as long as its smart compatible because it runs off a dll. not an actual site unless your school block javascripts in your Computer then i suppose it possible

It just means it installs it into a folder rather than as a full blown installation, which means you can just delete it without having to remove it via uninstalling etc. It also means you can put the folder onto a usb stick and run it off that. What MAIN FTW was talking about is having the setup files on the usb stick and installing then uninstalling when he uses it on a pc (I think).
Edit: And my school has gone crazy and blocks all .exe's unless it is set to run. Man I hate how clever they assume most of the school is that they need to do that, it just mkaes it so much harder for me!

I think the portable version doesn't add it self to the regiestry list.

@mixster05
at my school, every thing is controlled over the network, not the computer it selfs, so to bypass that and gain normal user access, all you have to do is unplug the internet cable right(before it says "applying setting...etc) and plug it back when your in.

Unfortunately, the computers have linux installed only and only get windows when it starts up (which needs cable access), so unplug it and it won't let you log in, unplug during the login and it crashes and beeps like hell. I can safely say that unless you get access to an admins account, there will be no easy way to put Scar onto my schools network. Either that or hack the server :) I may just have to make a Scar password guesser and try to get one of the server tech guys passwords, then I mess up the network and they get what they deserve for being idiots and expecting people to live without .exe's!

The whole point of something being portable is so it leaves nothing on the host computer, absolutely nothing. You can do what M A I N FTW has done and instead of installing it to C:\Program Files\, you install it to your flash drive but that will leave useless registry entries on every computer you pull up SCAR on, bogging down the (probably) already bogged down Windows that they have on that computer.

Plus I'm gonna take a guess and say most people aren't able to change folders and files in 'Program Files'

im going to take a guess and say that you're using vista?(i can and do all the time).

is it seriously bad to not do scar portable, if you're using it on a usb?(and i mean "is it bad?...seriously" not "is it extremely bad" :))

No Dan, I meant most people at school can't change files in 'Program Files'.

Coincidently I am running Vista, but I spent like £1000 of my own money on this PC, so of course I've got admin and can change PF.
