ok guys this is serious.

my computer got a virus because my stupid sister did something and she wont tell what the heck she did. but she got a virus on my laptop and im pissed off as hell. ive tried running the usual programs (ad-aware, spy-bot,etc.) and nothing seems to affect it. the virus seems to have also affected my registry and i cannot seem to roll it back to earlier date because of the virus.

is there anyway you guys know of to get rid of the virus without have to reboot the OS. i seriously dont want to do that because i have some personal information on there that i cant back up. i need HELP!'

and i repeat this is serious.

Tried AVG Antivirus?

If not, google it. It's good. 8D

tried it and it didnt even begin to scratch off the virus.

perhaps another program or a different method of destroying the virus.

Well, does it find the virus?
If so, what does call it? Where is it located? (Directory?)
Post a screenie if possible.

How does the virus affect your PC? Post in details.

I have the McAfee Anti virus system... I think you can get it bye downloading the aol tool bar. Also try to avoid using Nortan, I have had bad experiences with Nortan (*cough* Nearly wiping my hard drive *cough*) McAfee has found every damn trojan and virus I have every downloaded.

good luck mate,

i would if i can. i cant take screens because i wont be able to transfer it since i dont want my laptop going online. It seems the virus has not been "fully updated" and i can still control my laptop to a certain degree. And just to clear things up, im using a different computer than my affected laptop.

i can only get my laptop to run if its in Safe Mode. I can try normal mode but it would get spammed and go really slow.

AVG virus did detect something called
"an internet speed monitor trojan horse" along with a bunch of other adwares but it didnt fix the problem.

the virus has a start up screen of windows media center edition which is seriously not my OS, my OS is simply windows XP. It gives me a log in screen of which i didnt have before or ever did and 2 admin accounts.

do you guys know of any ways to take screens and post it without going online.

i fear the problem will only get worse if i go online.

@ noidea: Norton cant even detect this little bugger which was when i seriously began to freak out. I dont have McAfee and they only seem to have a free "evaluation program" which i dont need at the very moment.

WHERE is the file located?

Ok, basic virus-killing: control panel -> preformance & maininance (sp w/e) -> system -> system recovery -> check the box which says "turn off system recovery" -> "use" -> now you might have to wait a while -> uncheck the box -> use -> OK. Did this fix the problem?

thats the problem, it says it detects it but nothing else.
the virus just keeps moving about and its more than just one of them.
even if i delete them, they come right back like new again.

and the system recovery is already screwed up. i cant use it because the virus deleted all the recovery points.

Leg, for the last time. I can't help you unless you post the folder locations of the viruses.

Crazy virus... If you you have a thumb drive you could transfer with that. If you have a screen shot taker on that computer use it. You can also download the hyper snap screen shot taker from there website I believe this is the URL (http://www.hyperionics.com/) then transfer the installer to the infected comp then copy and paste the screenies to the thumb drive?

Have you checked if it's in your startup list through MSConfig? (It's probably too smart to show itself there...)

ok ok ill scan again and hopefully the trojan or whatever it is has not moved.

PS. i just lost control of my task manager and admin account so this is goin gto get tricky from here on out.

@bullzeye: no i havent but more than likely its not since the virus can start even before i can turn on my comp since it has this login screen that look legit but i never had a login screen set up EVER.

oh yeah and one more thing...

this thing started as a system tray icon and i bet my sister was dumb enough to click on it.

hey guys i found where one of the virus is.

it was in my application data folder and you would never of guess this.

it was in my Java folder hidden in the files folder of java.

its name is Generic_c.IKY as found by Spy sweeper and AVG.

more to come as i run Norton, theCleaner, Spyware Doctor, and Spy-Bot

does the virus tells u in start up "registery editor has been disabled by the adminsrator" if it says that u should download a kaspersky 7.0.0.25 and run scan and if its not download kaspersky and see too :)

I don't think he needs to. Look at his last post. He seems to be getting this worked out.

i thought i had it worked out.

but instead it keeps getting worse.

Reformatting is the last option because

1. i dont have a reboot disk.
2. i cant back up all my info.

@waddo: that program only works if your trying to prevent a virus attack.

mine is already under siege and im trying to take it out.

EDIT: my laptop is already having trouble with trying to connect to the internet...

the situation at hand looks bleak. if anyone has a solution, im glad to hear it out.
