Windows woes

Hello, I've been a linux user for the past year, and dual booted for another year before that with windows. However, I now want to get another copy of windows , that I can run a few programs.

The problem is, I can only find a disk with what appears to be win98se. Anyone know if scar will run on it correctly (I'm guessing it will) and visual studio professional edition?

Also, if someone knows how I could get a copy of windows xp, that's be cool. I still have the oem sticker on my comp, too. So, if I was to just download a copy of xp, would it work?

Yeah try downloading a Torrent, and then find The serial Key. I Think that XP's keys aren't Dynamic?

No, they're not Dynamic :'(

But if you use Naums suggestion, the torrent and find a serial, then that means your copy is not genuine and you'll not be able to update it.

Yeah my computer uses Legit Software, Once I got this un-legit Xp software from Pakistan (Pirate). The next day Windows wanted if I wanted an Update and (stupidly) I click 'Yes'.
The following Evening when I Log on I find that Xp Is disabled.
Just don't update your version keep download new torrents like Once every 6 months, and there you go : Your Update ;)

I know how to make Windows XP SP2 Genuine only using regedit (don't need to download nothing).
I recommend you to download XP SP2
With genuine u can update all windows XP (WMP11, IE7 I HATE IE7 too)
You can google "Windows XP genuine regedit" =)

PM And i'll send you a link to a torrent for XP Ulitmate by Johhny. Its a cross between XP, Vista, Linux, and mac(themes only and icon dock). But it uses XP Pro/Media center as the base OS with a bunch of Apps dll's ontop. It works very well. And has a microsoft genuine key crack built right in ;)

It's also SP3 ;) hehehe <3 prereleases

Why? You can get SP3 already... Well the Pre-release from microsoft... but only special people get that :rolleyes: I can send SP3 and the candidate 2 Files for anyone who wants them until SP3 official comes out in June. You need candidate2 file to use the SP3 pre-release

Even if I can't update, it doesn't worry me very much. I'm only going to use it to auto on RS, use Visual Studio Profession and a few other basic things. However, if I can update it'll be better. I'm pretty careful when it comes to viri anyway.

1H = First half
CY = Current Year (2008)

And the date is now sometime in june.
I know that 100% because we are offering and upgrade service at staples so we know when its comming out so we know when we're allowed to use the disks :p

I just got to it revive a computer from the dead....
Anyways if you have a legit key use that with the correct Windows Xp. If not....*cough* there are cracked Windows out there that activate via hardware keygens. Pretty much you try to register Windows online without an internet connection enough times and It will give an option to phone activate and that where that keygen comes in handy. *cough* *cough* uh excuse me

I used the keygen on my computer, then didn't do the verify online thing. On the disk it had some way to get rid of the 30 days trial or whatever. It's all good now. Thanks for everyones help and suggestions. Now all I need to do is get Visual Studio Pro 2008 if it runs on a comp with 512mb ram... If not, oh well.

Its easy to get a key. What I did (real scenario) was ring up Microsoft and a nice lady answered, I told her that we'd just had our hard drive formatted because it was outdated and got a new one. But we've lost the key! "Oh No". She was kind enough to provide a key that I am still using today :)
