We can confirm that your account has been accessed by someone other than yourself on multiple occasions. Account security is your responsibility, and you MUST take steps to keep your account from being shared or stolen. Failing to do so may result in this account being permanently locked.

The only way that a player account can be accessed by someone other than the owner is if:

1: The player has been careless in securing their passwords or security questions. This is usually a result of the player passing them on to friends or family, or entering them into a site other than RuneScape.com.

To avoid this happening again we would ask you to:
* Never tell anyone your password.
* Never tell anyone your recovery answers; be aware that others may try to trick you into doing so through conversation.
* Never tell anyone your password.
* Never give out your contact details or billing details.
* Never tell anyone your password.

2: The player has been careless about security and has allowed a “trojan” or keylogger to be installed on their machine which has managed to collect their password. This often happens when visiting RuneScape hack websites.

To avoid this happening again we would ask you to:
* Never visit a RuneScape “cheat” site; there are no cheats for RuneScape.
* Never visit a RuneScape “staff” site; we do all recruiting through our main sites.
* Never visit a RuneScape “test server” site; we do not use such sites.

All of these sites will be set up to steal your account from you.

3: The player has used a macro program to play RuneScape for them and it has a “trojan” or keylogger built into it.

To avoid this happening again we would ask you to never use such programs, especially as to do so can and will get your account banned.

To make sure that the account is not accessed by anyone else again, you will need to submit a password recovery request. However, before requesting a new password it is vital that you ensure the computer being used is completely free from viruses, “trojans” and keyloggers.

Most Windows distributions are not secure unless you take some basic precautions:

If you use Windows, get the latest updates and security fixes for your computer from windowsupdate.microsoft.com - this is a must!

Install up to date anti-virus software. We recommend using Norton Antivirus; alternatively you can get a free virus scanner from www.grisoft.com.

Install a firewall to protect your computer from external attacks. You can get free firewall software from www.zonealarm.com.

Be very careful about what programs you run to avoid a “trojan” being installed on your machine. For more information about “trojans”, and how to remove them, visit www.hackfix.org.

When you have made sure your computer is secure, click on either “Change your password” or “Recover a lost password” on the main RuneScape website (www.runescape.com) and try to fill out as many of your account details as you can remember. We can then reset your recovery questions and send you a new password.

For more information about keeping your account safe I strongly recommend that you read and follow all the security tips available to you on our website, which can be found by clicking on the “Safety & Security” link under the Knowledge Base section.

Yours sincerely,

I assume they use the IP addressed to find out?

You could try lying to Jagex, and telling them that you frequently access Runescape in Net Cafes - unless your friend is living in another country, which could be a problem :/

Do not tell Jagex that you use a proxy (Unless it's true). Because they can do a simple check to see if it is actually a proxy. Don't tell them that you are sharing the account either, because that is a bannable offense.

Perhaps you can somehow say that you gave an overseas relative your password, to allow him/her to 'check out' your account. I've shared accounts before, and the 'relative' excuse has worked both times I've gotten reported.
