Sorry about the grammar, I dont have much time.

Im in 8th grade and the last few weeks have been very painful for me.

I had an essay and a bunch of stuff due last Friday.
I have 2 projects due this Friday, both including around 4 page essays.
1 science project due Monday
A 2 day math final and a 3 day Spanish final on all that we learned in grades 7 and 8 (spanish)
Oh and a presentation due Monday.

I wanted to ask the older kids (or adults) in this forum if it gets worse in highschool. I don't think it could get much worse than this. But then again, I am taking all honors and 2 languages next year (and speech and debate--you have to write speeches, that will be fun...)

Basically, am I going to be overloaded next year?

I am in the same grade as you and basically same thing happened to me at the end of school year(today was last for me). But to answer your question, i hear from my bro everyday(hes a junior in highschool) that it gets a lot worse. He is always up like 2 hours later than me working on hw.
I dont want to go in hs!

Well currently in High School I have:
1. A Chemistry Practice Exam, which is basically a previous state test in the chem field (82 Questions)
2. A Math B Practice Exam, which is basically a previous state test in the math field (about 42 Questions)
3. A US History Practice Exam, which is basically a previous state test in the US History field (50 Multiple Choice Questions)
4. Regular Chemistry homework (27 Questions)
5. Read 30 pages for English
6. Study for an exam in PE (yes, we do have exams in gym...)

So yea, it's about the same.

I think grade 11 is the worst year... but you think it will be so much harder but it isnt as hard as you think.

Yea, I'm a Junior (11th grader) and 11th grade is a lot more work than 10th. It's a pretty big jump. Your senior year is good because you can take a lot of classes that YOU want, but you still have to apply yourself.

Lol, totally agree Hobbit, just finishing up my junior year in high school and finals this year are going to be a bitch..

AP Lang Comp final - 50 questions on The Great Gatsby and 2 essays..
AP French final - 140 questions and a written portion
Trig/Calc AB final - 63 questions
US History final - 115 questions
AP Physics final - 53 questions

Oh and for about the past 4 or 5 weeks, I haven't gone to bed earlier than 2 AM... So basically.. PREPARE FOR HELL.

Not really actually, freshman and sophomore year are easy it's just junior year that is a bitch..

well personally, I would prefer to have all exams. I usually dont need to study for tests that hard. It would pretty much be review. All these essays on the other hand...

Haha, have fun writing a 14 page research paper along with a 5 page paper EVERY WEEK! Seriously, nearly every week i had to write a 5 page paper on SOMETHING.. Whether it be a book that we read, a story or even something totally random...

Well, I can tell you that i think it's best for you to organize your time better, as I don't normally see teachers (especially in middle school) give out this much at one. Essays in general, if you're get good in it, you can probably whip up a four page essay all edited in 2 hours.

My suggestion to you is this, it worked well for me.

If you get too stressed out, stop trying to get the highest mark you can possibly achieve, aim for something that proves to be more suitable. So, if you're a 90% student, aim for 80s or late 70s (lots less work) on the items you find overwhelming. If your 75% student, aim for 65%, and so on. This only works if you don't keep it up on a regular basis! Once in awhile would be good, avoiding this, is the BEST!

Hope I helped! This I've got from my own personal school experience. (It is extremely easy for ppl to abuse their mark by overusing this general tip, so take care.)

Well, I DO manage my time well. The problem is, I live in a very rich town with a VERY good education (one of the top public schools of the state). I have heard maybe 3 suicide stories because kids couldn't take the stress. On top of this, I am an overachiever and a perfectionist and get an average of 98. SOOo, this leads to a LOT of work.

Its also the end of the year and teachers are rushing to finish the curriculum.

Yeah Macrosoft, same stuff at my high school.. It really sucks.. My public high school is so high up there that the majority of colleges totally IGNORE the class rank because they all know its so ridiculously hard to be in the top 10% or something like that.. To give you a taste.. My friend has a 4.78 GPA and she is still only 78th in our class...

4.78 GPA is that even possible?! Damn extra credit LOL... Im Homeschooled and people may think "oh yeah you get to do whatever you want its so easy" but everyone in the homeschool community is an over-acheiver... makes me look bad because i am about an average student, I dont try very hard but get an average of about 85... But highschool is harder, but with that you have a lot more fun, freedom, and independence, sure its a shitty trade off but just learn to enjoy the time you have because most people look back at high school as the best days of their lives...

The nice thing about high school was the freedom to take challenging classes, or to not. For example taking lots of Honors, AP's or IB's are impressive, but they tend to be much harder than regents-type classes.

My suggestion is take 9th and 10th grade to sound out your strengths, take a mix of regents and honors classes, and get a general idea of what you think is fun, what you think you're good at, and what you hate. This will help when you hit 11th grade and start feeling the pressures of college admissions.

I'm currently a junior at university, so I hope I'm not dating myself. High school is a bitch, but it's definitely possible to be challenged, have fun, and get good grades. Finding out the best way to do that is different for everyone, and I hope my advice was somewhat helpful.

Good luck with your courses!

Well, in that case... Work your butt off =). I don't personally have a 98% average, but, if you are a perfectionist, then use this as an experience to try too see your limit. There's really no way to make your work load any easier as you got a great learning attitude. Therefore, just use times like this, as an experience to check how much you can really do.

(Hope I helped, even a little... This time =]).

Basically what I do is focus on what I need to focus on. For example, in the beginning of the year I was just completely pwning science. I ended up with a 115 average for that term. On the other hand I got a 91 in English. Now, I dont try at all at science or math, but I do on English and Social Studies, so I have a more balanced grade.

Unfortunately, this method doesn't save you any time, but it does help you prioritize your time.

Senior is just so much funner, seriously you don't need to do anything until your last 2 years, they mean nothing even your second last year doesn't mean anything just enjoy it as much as you can.
