I was using my laptop yesterday, and the battery died when I was doing stuff on it. Now Windows will not boot, and my HD has a lot of errors on it and I don't know what to do :duh: I have a LOT of important data I can not get back because I did not have it backed up. Is there any way to somehow get the data off the HD and/or fix the HD so it works again? Thanks in advance..

P0rn = Kill HD.
Put in windows disk and hit restore, not format.
its 'format' with out erasing files.

But Timer... I think the actual HD sectors are messed up, like I can't even view the HD on Linux =X So yeah, it is not my Windows fault.

Did it commit suicide?
My friends does all the time, the HD gashes it self.

No.
Have you tried booting from last known good config? does it get that far? if not then do as Timer said and try and Restore. If that doesnt work, well post again and i'll think of something :P

There could be something wrong with your boot sequence.
Put the recovery disk in. Hit R to go to the recovery console.
Type
fixmbr
then hit Y (nothing bad will happen)
then type
fixboot
Try that.

I don't reckon your hard drive is broken. What you've done is basically killed some of your data when the battery died. It might be a good idea to just install windows without reformatting the hard drive. If that doesn't work, then I'm afraid it's likely that you've lost all your data and will have to reformat.

If the HD doesn't show up with a LiveCD of linux.. Your pretty fucked!

what i would do is, remove the hard drive and plug it into a external hub that will allow you to plug it into the usb throught a cable, like external hard drives, then i would go to my computer and open the hard drive and copy all my important data off it, that way i can format it and just copy the files over again.
if you cant access it then you are stuffed.
