Hey guys I'm sure alot of you guys are pretty awesome programmers or at least can maybe help me with this. I would like to learn programming of any sort and in the end pherhaps make a couple of programs or maybe make a video site or something. I'm probably going about this the wrong way but what would be the best language to start programming in?
My second question.
I would also like to maybe make graphics whether it be a simple model for a game or a signature for a forum I would also like to know where to start with something like this.
I know i'm asking alot here but if you can at least answer one of my questions or point me in the right direction I would be so greatful.
Thanks in advance.

For standalone programs you're looking at languages like Java, VB and C++/C#. Personally my background is in Java and I really like it, apart from GUI's which it does horribly. Java is easy enough to learn and their are plenty of free tutorials and people about who would be willing to help you. C++/C# I've never tried but know they have a similar syntax to Java so can't be that hard. Visual basic is great for easy GUI's but that's pretty much all it has going for it.

If seen some pretty nice games made in C++, so if thats your aim then go with that. IMO its more difficult then java,C#,VB.net but I guess its more system level however you want to say, basicly has more access to the system which is why most people recommened it for keyloggers and other destructive programs I guess. If you just wanna make regular old apps for windows and maybe a few graphics stuff with a nice GUI then go with C# or VB.net. I prefer C# seeing as if you want to major in it later in life I heard they get paid more :D.
If you decide to go with C# or C++, then PM on this site and I will send you some of my E-Books for it.

I may be a bit biased, but I'd recommend Delphi as a first language? Why? It derives from the language Pascal, which is the language that SCAR is based on. It is very easy to learn, and is quite good overall for a first language.

I know this thread is a few days old but the poor site was down again. Ok thanks for all your help I will probably go for C# and maybe later try Delphi (Thanks bullzeye)

Hmm, well, I was really suggesting it for a first language, since it's so easy to learn and helps to teach you the Windows API along the way. If you're starting out with C#, I don't even see a reason to learn Delphi.
