I just got my pc back from a repair shop, and when I turned it on, I found out that only Internet explorer works, firefox doesn't. Not only that, but I can't download java, or connect to the internet with other programs.

I tried turning off windows firewall- Didn't work
I tried adding firefox to windows allow list- Didn't work
I tried un-installing Norton 360, but couldn't. When I try to un-install it from add/remove programs, I get "The specified module can't be found". When I try to use the un-installer from norton, I can't download it.

I'm currently running on windows vista 32 bit

This is very frustrating, I appriciate any help you could give me.

Check if there are any Windows updates available. If there are some, install them. Then try to download Java etc.

Have you tried to re-install Firefox? I you haven't then do.

@R1ch4

I updated vista and reinstalled firefox, still nothing.

@Jukka

I am using vista, though if that were the case, shouldn't IE be broken too?

I have XP on a different computer, is there a disk that comes with XP I can use to install it on this one?

vista doesn't suck , it just lags for computers with not enough ram.

I think you repair shop people messed it up.

Question, why did you take it to the repair shop?(what was wrong with your pc)

vista runs fine if you have over 2gb ram, what you want to do is use the "recovery cd's" that you hopefully made for your xp on your vista, they will work like an xp install cd. be sure to wipe your vista hdd clean, so xp doesn't identify vista (i prefer linux anyway, it is totally free, pretty much un-hackable (I don't even need a firewall), and I can totally hack whoever I want.
If you want a user friendly linux distro, go with Ubuntu, for advanced I recomend backtrack 3 (FTW hackers linux)

I got Firefox and vista together and I have no problems, it just could be a mem leak.

Call the repair shop and say..

"Hi, my name is [Name Here] and I just got my PC back from you guys [How many days ago] days ago and when I try to open Firefox or download thing's it doesn't let me, So i'm going to bring my PC back and your going to fix it for me for free, ok? **Then they'll either say, yeah sure bring it back and we'll take a look.. OR Sorry, it was fine when we gave it back, you'll have to pay for it to be looked at again.** If they say you have to pay again then tell them, LOOK IF YOU DONT FIX MY FUCKING PC, ILL COME DOWN THERE AND SLIT YOUR FUCKING THROAT YOU STUPID FAT MOTHERFUCKER!!! :)

And that's that...

Make sure that no proxy setting have been made in IE, also check ALL the connectiong setting in IE. If these are wrong then not only will IE not work but nearly all programs that use the internet will not work, cuz they all use the setting from IE.

Oh and Vista does not suck. It is probaly the most stable OS from Microsoft i have use appart from 98.

Also dont use the xp cd from another computer on you vista machine because that will just mess it up even more, and you will lose all you un backed up data in the process

Why did you take your computer in to the repair shop? If it wasn't anything horrid I would try a system restore to see if that fixes things up.

Otherwise, I think you need to call this repair shop and let them know how awful they are at fixing computers.
