Hey, so I'm new here but that's okay..

o.k. so here is the problem... I'm piggybacking my neighbors WiFi, but then all of a sudden, it goes out, so I go to my cmd, and check the ip settings...

it gives me an ip, but now, it seems they turned of their DHCP client, which is the thing that automatically gives you your ip, gateway, sub net mask etc.
So, i can still connect to their network, but it says their DHCP is off, and i cant connect to their internet. what exactly do i do?/ what would i need? would i need their new static IP gate way DNS and sub net mask manually?
thanks

Lol, you know that's Illegal right?
We don't condone Illegal activities here at SRL..

P.S. If you want the Interent, pay for it like everyone else has to :)

Sounds like what you need to do is get your own internet connection.

Stealing someone else's internet is illegal, but I will answer your question anyway. You would need the static IP, gateway, and DNS servers for your neighbors. Hope that answers your question. :)

Sounds like you are better off using the internet just how you did when you posted this.

you guys are kill-joys, but thanks anyway, i later on realized that they simply turned it off for a few minutes, but i have a new question, I can see the mac address of the router, but how do i see the mac address of the adapter that uses it "legally" that way, i can fake my mac to their mac, and hop on undetected???

type arp -a into console, I assume you running on microsoft software..

Not killl joys. It just happens to be that I don't know anything you can do to fix that error without having physical access to the hardware.

Also, im pretty sure that the network will detect a mac collision if you use the same mac as another person connected.

lolz stealing internet ftw :p
hmm it looks like they either have a new WEP key or maybe just a firewall of some sort I wouldnt know how to get past it but....
you can try flushing your Ip from the CMD or just keep trying to reconnect a few times might do the trick..

thank you! you may asume that but i obviously have the superior os (you know what im talkin bout, so terminal is also fine) console=cmd anyway ok thank you....

umm they might be able to detect mac collision but thats insignificant because i can kick them off and take their place, for now, i faked it as 00:11:22:33:44:55 which just might seem to some people as a windows default thing....

ok i have another question, i realized now that my lame neighbors think they're all that, and what they did was make it hidden, thanks to a little program called netstumbler, i can see their little turd selves online. question is, how do i connect to a network with no ssid in windows??????
edit:i am googling it, so hang on to your butts..
edit: also i should note that i invited a friend over with a laptop that runs vista and has a supperior wifi card, on his network manager, the wifi card can see the network, but when we try to connect, it fails (yes its wep protected and yes i know their pass)

edit: okay i googled through a load and found that on vista i must enable the option "connect even if not broadcasting" but thats about it...xp?

edit: perhaps i can associate thru cmd and their mac? any1 know command? sorry for spelling by the way

edit: yes i do have other access points, and that is how i am typing this, but i want a challenge, and i do realize using you people to help me isnt exactly challenging but fair is fair and thats just resourcefulness?

edit: okay thhis is alot of edits, but i am not supposed to double post, i have been recomended wireless zero configuration tool by my sources and if i set it up manually it should work?

On revealing their network, then programs such as Kismet or KisMAC may help..Also it's not possible to connect to 802.11 WLAN if you don’t know the SSID. I assume you do, if you've used that network before

i know their ssid and their mac and their wep i but what program will let me connect to it after revieling it, i really dont like kismet, netstumbler works fine, and WZC is only for SP2, i like to keep my xp downgraded

edit: i looked around and a lot of people said that disabling the ssid broadcast makes it a nightmare for the users themselves. Now i now my neighbors are idiots, so they probably called customer service or support. the first time, they changed their WEP it was lame, then lamer, they repeated characters....but thats not the point, WEP WPA WPA2 are not a problem for me, theoretically this shouldnt be either on a upgraded pc, but i like mine downgraded!!!! i cant wait till they broadcast it again because it appears they haven't done anything. which im assuming it works fine. WZC wont connect to a network with no ssid unless it beacons....dont make me be a full time linux, its game deficient!!!! help!!!

edit: wow, so i was getting pissed an found this...

Non-broadcast Network Behavior with Windows XP and Windows Server 2003

You can use Windows XP and Windows Server 2003-based wireless clients to connect to non-broadcast networks. In Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, users can connect to non-broadcast networks by configuring a preferred wireless network (either manually or through Group Policy) and specifying the non-broadcast network SSID. Wireless Auto Configuration then uses the configuration to connect to the non-broadcast network. The following figure shows an example of manually configuring a preferred wireless network.
Preferred wireless network dialog box
http://i.technet.microsoft.com/Bb726942.cg0804_3(en-us,TechNet.10).gif

some how, mine doesn't have the "connections" tab, this is probably beacause i dont have sp2, i messed with it for about 5 minutes, and then the SSID showed up, i dont know if that was me or not but it showed up, however i couldnt connect and i dont know why, also im pretty sure it was me, because on NetworkStumbler, it said the SSID was not broadcasting...what exactly are the configurations i need for this?

edit: okay so re partioned my pc, now it has sp2, and the wzc tool...i also downloaded netstumbler again....it now has the "connection" tab shown in the above picture, now i can see the bssid of the hidden network, i manually added it, but when i try to connect, it just keeps going and going and going, and then ends, and connect to the other automatic network, the one that works too....so what the matter i have everything down!! could they have changed their wep???

edit: im thinking they can go blow themselves; il just steal it thru my linux on a virtual machine and use windows? that is possible right?

LOL man just pay for your own internet
it;s not like internet costs a lot :google:
And BY the WAyDownGrading your PC can give issues in the future i'd update regularly and go to service pack 2 ........Stealing is against the law someone can report you highly unlikely they change their WEP update your computer or in the future everything is gonna fail i advise you don;t downgrade your pc and pay for your own internet,,,,,using a virtual machine is a waste of time and ne ways they can tell when your on their network it will show name of the computer and owner name if they go through the netwrk setting don't get urself caught p.s ur wasting a thread

You're stupid with all that useless and wrong information in the SCAR tags.. -.-

And BackTrack 2 or 3 is your friend, it is everything WiFi or networking related you will ever need.

Doh. Agreed with last argument. I have bt3 final iso, unfortunately I don't have raw CD to burn it on..I do have some 6-7 raw DVDs -.- (And my pc doesn't have DVD reader)

basic_i, so if this is possible to start linux under VM, I'll try..

Edit: Doh. -.-
