the operating system

as part of module CP2 you learnt a liitle about the operating system- suite of software pacjages that control and co-ordinate a computers reources.

as part of module CP5, you will study the operating system in much greater depth(sounds like a ball of fun.... why cant we just do some proper programming with java or delphi why vb6 and pascal and worst of all logo )

your mission(how sad im 17 not 7) for the first week of term is to make sure you can remember all that you have learnt about the operating system so far.

answer the following questions, using your fit year notes and any other resources(SRL-Forums =p) that you can find.

1. describe the nature, purpose and typical functions of the operating system from the users piont of view

2. descrbe the role of theoperating sye=stem in managing resources

3 describe and destinguish between the following modes of operationg
online
offline
batch
transaction
interactive
realtime
single user
single tasking$
multitasking
multiprogramming
multiuser(multi access)

4 describe the nature and purpose of spooling





Ive answered most of the questions but i need to double check im right find out what ive got wrong and what i dont know

Lol I did A2 computing, wasn't that fun...

You should have a book that comes with the course, has all of the answers to your above questions in.

we had to give the book back at end of term we get a new one this term
god i wish they would teach us something usefull
ive actually managed to persuade him to teach is java (but we have do it it in our own time like an afer school club kinda thing which slightly spoils it but oh well could be usefull)
