Today my other computer contracted some sort of Trojan/Virus thing that has slowed my computer down to a grinding halt showing the odd virus message every minute. Some of the symtoms:

>Some dialogue boxes have VIRUS ALERT!! written in them
>Viewing C drive (My main one) has been disabled
> Task manager has been disabled
>Every other minute pop-ups appear offering to scan my PC for viruses

I know this must sound like a simple question but I do I get rid of this problem other than Wiping my whole PC? AVG is no good and most websites on the internet say that the file Empa.exe is "Safe".

Any ideas?

Popup's like that sound like a form of smitfraud, wouldn't hurt to scan for it. attaching a SmitFraud scanner (And allows it to be fixed following SPECIFIC instructions) If it detects something report back here and I will walk you through on how to remove SmitFraud.

I believe (off the top of my head cause I haven't had to walk someone through using this program in a while) you run it, wait a moment and it comes to a blue screen asking you to press any key to continue, then asks you to select an option, type the number 1 and hit enter (I think this is the option to scan) and it should scan your system for SmitFraud.

If possible go to the store and buy McAfee anti-virus. It's my favorite, and in my opinion; the best.

i had the same prob on my "crap" pc my other 1 well the internet lost connection so we had to fix it it didnt let me go on task manager or anything i just restored my "crap" Pc To a Previous state and that way u might not get all them virusis anyway its not showing any virusis but it deletes all the data saved after that restore point

Edit : I Recommend Putting All The Stuf U Want On To Disc (scan Them First) Then Restore Ur Pc

The way to system restore is,
Start Button --> My programs --> Accesories --> System tools --> System restore -->

Then click it and start the little options thing.

If you're looking for a free solution, may I suggest SpyBot Search and Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html?

I personally would rather have most viruses then McAfee, its darn popups are annoying and you tell it to NEVER alert you but it does anyway. It does its just I agree but its horrible for annoyingness.

Burn down your house and pour salt over the ruins.

Thanks, I'll have a go with this first and then report back, if all else fails I could try using system restore using safe mode.

EDIT:

I have scanned the affected PC and now have a "Rapport", I have looked at it and it does contain some warning about various bits and pieces.

well i reccomend going to safer networking forums show them the program you used and the rapport? and they should have a technician who will help you (this is the place that developed spybot s&d)
edit: it looks like a virtumonde to me definately go to safer networking forums but only post one thread about it and if needed bump once a day but there shouldn't be a need
