Torrents rely on seeders which means if no one is seeding the torrent then no one can downlaod it. When downloading torrents try and find torrents with high seeders and less leechers.
Edit - what torrent software are you using?
Try 'enabling encryption'

Anyone know how to forward ports?
I get the same thing, and I'm on a < 1 year old pc. PC even, not a lappy.
If your on a pc then I don't think the ports would be a problem. Maybe your downloading bad torrents?

Don't listen to the websites that say how fast you download. They find the closest server to where you live, and download a file from there to check your speed. The torrent could be downloading from anywhere in the world, so the speeds are always going to be slow.
My torrent speeds have never been above 200kb/s. I get really good speeds on demonoid torrents, though. And from rapidshare, I get around 1.2mb/s which is my max downloading anywhere. Even though speed test websites say it should be like 8mb/s, pff.

there is a lot of information on youtube. Be sure to look for a vid that uses the latest version of your bittorrent. Depending on your ISP, some will throttle down your dl speed when you use standard bittorrent ports (starting at 6000). It would help if you make up at random 5 digit port number (and configure with your firewall) and encrypt your connection in the bittorrent program if possible. Also find out more about Port Forwarding, if you're really serious about this stuff. Most importantly, choose an ACTIVE torrent with lots of seeders before you dll it. If your really serious about it, join a private torrent site with their own private tracker (u need to register), but be sure to seed as much as you leach on these sites! Popular torrents on these "special" sites FLY, and u really don't have to configure anything with you bittorrent program in this case.
