How do you extract videos off of a dvd and onto your desktop?
I have a feeling its really simple and I'm just not there.
(using Windows XP and its a DVD-R)

i would just say to use utorrent or something of the sort but sometimes i think you can open up the movie/video in windows media? then rip it off the cd onto the desktop but im not exactly sure on the details :s
Edit:i think when you first put it in there should be a box that pops up.. is rip an option? otherwise id just try torrents

NO!!!!
Not if you own the movie and you are making a digital copy of it for a back-up.
Is the DVD in "DVD" format, is in, can you play it on a regular DVD player?

On all of the movies I have bought, it says 'Blah balh Punishment if copy'
Sorry if I'm wrong

Hmmm, well, there are a few ways you can go about doing it, and neither of the ways I know how to do it are any fun...at all...
WikiHow (http://www.wikihow.com/Rip-a-DVD) has a decent and pretty easy way to do it, not sure if it's the best though. I have never seen the VLC way of ripping, so I may try that out some time :)
Edit: Go down to the "Video" section, and watch that video, I think it helps

Ah, no problem :p I probably sounded too harsh. Yes, they say you cannot copy them, but it means you can't copy and distribute. (pretty sure, these issues are debatable )
