I am in the market for a new LCD monitor. I will most likely purchase from www.newegg.com. I am looking for probably a 22" widescreen, but I may settle for a 21.5" WS.

I have a few concerns: 1. I would like to be able to play my Xbox 360 on it, and 2. I would like be able to use it as a high quality computer monitor.

A few choices:

Obviously my first idea was to get one with an HDMI in port in. Found quite easily, but it is considerably more expensive than one without. ~$300 for the cheapest

While looking at my work I noticed that HDMI to DVI converters exist, so I looked at some monitors that had 2 DVI ports on them, and they are ridiculously expensive, so forget that shiz. ~$315 for a 19"....

Then I thought (since my vid card has DVI and VGA/D-SUB out) I would go with just running my computer on the monitor through VGA and 360 on the DVI (since most monitors have DVI and VGA in). Then I did some looking around, and found that DVI is very far superior to VGA in terms of...well, goodness. So this idea is starting to go out as well (the CHEAPEST idea, ~$200 for a GOOD one), and I think I am stuck with going with my first idea, of HDMI.

So if anyone has anything to add, or any experience on this, or questions I suppose I would greatly appreciate anything from you guys :)

Also, I am pretty liberal with my rep+'s ;):p

oh Hey Brain! Log onto MSN :)

and back on topic, well I've never had experience buying monitors but are you planning on plugging your XBox and computer into the monitor at the same time?

Yes Shermanator, that would be ideal...I guess I could be un-lazy and just swap between the 1 DVI port...wow, I hadn't even thought of that....I'm really lazy though...:o

And sorry about the leave of absence, I'm outta school for Thanksgiving break, so I am rarely on the internet for the week, will be back on Sunday.

Oh haha yea i can just see you now...changing out the port every time you wanted to play XBox. That will get very old, fast.

Weren't you doing a mid-term or something? If so how'd it go?

I was workin on my physics lab project, worth 25% of the total grade. I think it worked out well :p I guess I'll see when the grade comes back XD. And yeah, it would suck to change the cord all the time, and I would have to switch over the speakers as well, but it could save me over $100...which is quite a bit!

I would go for the HDMI. You'd be able to keep your xbox and PC plugged in, and good quality.

Hey, if you have your business license here you go: http://www.evertek.com/products_sc.asp?cat=475.

Depending on how much time you spend awake:
http://www.xoxide.com/lightning-bolt-asian-experiance.html
http://www.xoxide.com/caffeine-candy.html

And by the way... the soap really works.

Why did you add the caffeine? But those are some really good savings for monitors.

Why would you think that I have "my" business license?
Do I need one to buy from that site?

EDIT:
Upon closer inspection most all of those monitors suck. The highest contrast ratio I saw was 1000:1, with most of them being 700:1, while the ones I am comparing those to have a low end of 7000:1, with 15000:1 being high end. Also the response time is fairly slow, at 5ms, while most the ones I am looking at on newegg have a 2ms time. That's not as big of deal to me as the contrast ratios...which suck on all of them.
But thanks anyway.
