I just bought a new LCD monitor with HDMI in. It has two 3.5mm phone jacks on the back (1 is input, to play computer sounds on the internal monitor speakers) and the other is headphone out.
I want to connect that head phone out, into my computer so I can hear what I have running through the HDMI (Xbox 360) on my computer speakers.
I have 3 audio jack on my motherboard, they are all currently full with: front L/R, Rear L/R, and Center/Sub. I have a cheap sound card that I got from a friend that I don't really know how to use very well. I have trying to get this to work for a few hours now with different audio programs and such, but no luck. Right now I am running "Realtek HD audio manager". It works great for the on board sound, but I don't think it sees the sound card, nor do I know what to do anyway.
ANY help would be appreciated...
Thanks.

There is an adapter you can buy that will let you have sound (red and white components) with your HDMI from XBox. You could hook the HDMI to your TV and hook the sound to your computers input. Some TVs (though very rare) have a output for sound so you can hook it up to your surround sound as well.
I know this because my friend has the adapter and its made for similar cases like this... Usually the most common would be to hook it up to surround sound system.

HDMI has the sound included with video, in one cable. The monitor I am using has internal speakers on it, which plays the sound well, but not as well as my surround sound for the computer. I do have an adapter that lets me hook my surround directly to RCA audio (red and white), but then I wouldn't have sound on my computer. The monitor does have audio out (for headphones) it it does work while playing my 360. So i was hoping to run a double male ended 3.5mm phone card from the audio out on my monitor into my computer, and have that routed to my speakers.
Thanks for the help though :)

I am fairly certain I do not need an adapter. I have gotten to where I I get sound out of my sub/center/Rleft/Rright speakers, from the HDMI, but nothing out of the F/R speakers.....and when I have it set up that way, the computer doesn't make any sounds...

You obviously didn't get what I said. I have HDMI and use HDMI with surround sound with the adapter. I'd take a picture and show you if my digital camera was here...
Reread what I said, there is an adapter that can be used w/ HDMI on the XBox to have the HDMI sound and the Red/White component sound. So you can use your surrond sound or hook it up to your computer with another adapter I have, which is 1/8" standard plugin to red/white component.
P.S. yes I know HDMI has sound in it, but there is quite a few things that doesn't support it so there is many adapters out there for just a case like this.

Alright, I know what you're saying Narcle, but I have gotten it to limitedly without the adapter. I am aware (thanks to your first post) that I can buy an adapter to have the red/white RCA sound out the xbox as well as the sound in the HDMI. But the monitor I have the HDMI plugged into has audio out, in the form of 3.5mm headphone jack. I think what you are saying is that I could get an adapter to have the red/white rca out from my xbox, and then adapt it to 3.5mm male phone plug and connect that to my computer? But thats what I already have running out of my monitor =/
I have also tried connecting my ipod to the a double male ended 3.5mm phone cord and having it play through my speakers (essentially the same thing as having my monitor play through) and I can't get it to work either.

Wait I see, i think i read it slightly wrong.
Its your sound card? Question, does it work correctly? Like do you have correct drivers for this sound card?

I'd test the sound cards input using your ipod also test using a different double male cord as well. If it doesn't work it could be ur drivers or the sound card itself from that point.
