As some of you may have noticed, I've come back, hopefully to stay this time. I mainly gave back due to having access to a computer again :)

The only problem with my new laptop is that it can't work SCAR properly, won't download the includes at all.

Due to not being able to script in SCAR, I decided I'd love to learn another language, to widen my knowledge, and I though Java would be great, and as n3ss3s seems to be getting on well with it, and hes a great guy, I thought I'd join in as Java seems like a very good language to have good scripting skills in.

I was just pretty much wondering if anyone has any good ideas of where to get started learning Java, the best programs to use, links to good tutorials etc.

Thanks to all :)

Richard

Thanks for the quick response :)

I'll check out that place and see what I can learn :)

I didn't know you could do that :), I should try it, but I don't know whether I should be getting back into scripting or not, I've forgotten most of what I once knew, and it's probably not bets to learn Java and script at the same time, with GCSE's and all.

I'd actually recommend Eclipse (www.eclipse.org) over Netbeans. But, anyway, for learning, head over to Java Ranch (www.javaranch.com). They've got some nice stuff there.

I'd recommend the books I'm using, but seeing as they're college textbooks, they cost a LOT of money.

Thanks for the link, and is there a website for those books your using? I suprisingly have some money left over after buying a laptop :p

Hehe, I'll see what I can get, if its just a book or something I wouldn't feel bad, just downloading whole programs and things I'd feel bad over.

Alright then. Here are the books I've used:

Alice in Action With Java
ISBN: 1423900960
A very simplistic book, best for beginners who have never programmed before. You can probably skip this one.

Java Programming: Program Design Including Data Structures
ISBN: 1418835404
