Hey, guys :)

Well. Soon, hopefully, I'll be getting the Adobe/Macromedia line of products. They include but are not limited to: Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign, Fireworks.

I was just wanting to know if any of you had HTML/CSS tips I can use. I plan to maybe make a business out of it.

I don't have any examples, except for ( http://acesart.com/pizza_spr09/elkins_pizza/index.htm ).

Just please give me some tips :) I'm pretty good at it, been doing it for a year +.

Also, do NOT tell me not to use HTML/CSS.

Shove that table up your ass and use fucking CSS!

I'll get into a Web Design Company with you if you want :D I could use some work to add to an active portfolio for Uni.

NiCbaZ will probably have some nice hints for you aswell ^.^

Heres some good reading; http://anti-tables.com/about

I am pretty good at HTML.

I'm no expert, though.

ToF, HTML ftw. I just don't care what other people think. Btw, It's kind of hard to make a website without tables if you want it decently sized :P Unless you used Imageready, of course. But, yeah. If I ever start it, you'll be the first person I'll contact.

PS: I want no trials. Trials aren't long-lasting, I need long-lasting products. Who the hell is going to have a company that is only in use for 30 days?

Can you teach me and motivate me? Because it's so easy i'm not trying it :p

Btw. if you help me putting html or php or Css on my server(hosted by ruler TY!)
Then you can use a part of it.

Lol, Hermpie :P

I have a MGatesPhoto website, impSOFT website, and a few GoDaddy ones :P
I'm not short on that subject.

But, the only thing I can really tell you is to read HTML sources of websites and see what they actually output.

it's more putting it on the server :p like a homepage.
Can you make me a little homepage then I can learn from it.

Not going to get far if you dont use Divs and CSS, also i would learn php and JS for login systems etc.

How so TViYH? Your limited with tables, possabilities with CSS are endless.

Never use tables, you can make a website 100x better with CSS, and plus you can attatch a stylesheet to every page and just edit the CSS Stylesheet and it updates all the pages, with tables you would have to do it manually.

And I dont think it was a trial, as such... it was a 'trial' *wink wink.. cough*a cracked torrent*cough*

Get a book on CSS layout and read that before doing ANY more web design :P

I recommend "CSS: The Missing Manual". It's really well written.

I hear that if you search on a particular website that goes by the name of btjunkie for "the missing manual css" then a link appears. I don't know where the link will take you but I recommend that if you are planning on clicking it then you have a bittorrent client ready..

PM me if you need some help.

The code is a bit non-logical, because if you just add 1 more line it will be seen as the next row =/ or column

You don't need dreamweaver. I learn using windows notepad but I would use any text editor/ide that has syntax highlighting. You don't need to bother with Dreamweaver at the moment as your focus should be on the syntax, not which IDEs offer corner-cutting, time-saving tricks.

Oh btw, HTML and XHTML are almost exactly the same except with XHTML you have to close *all* tags so where HTML will allow you to type:

<img src="">
In XHTML you have to close the tag so you end with "/>" not just ">". Like so:

<img src="" />

Another difference with XHTML and HTML is that with XHTML all images must have an alt text. This can be left empty though but for accesibility reasons you will usualy always want (read should) fill it in. If you don't want to add any text then you can just write the following:

<img src="" alt"" />

As you can see there isn't much difference between XHTML and HTML. Have a look at the W3C site and read about the differences there though. XHTML is just a little bit more semantic than HMTL.

Oh and make sure that you learn about doctypes.

Btw hermpie. What did you mean with this comment?

Not really. If you know CSS, its alot easier.

And Dreamweaver helps, alot. It means you can work in the code page but then go to the preview page to check it works, and debug it. Cant do that with word processors, you have to save it as a .html then open the web, every time.

Its quicker with DW, but you dont have to buy it, you can 'aquire' it.

I use XHTML.

There is no CSS codes in a table?

I mean, never use tables to design how your website looks

There are ways to make Tables like yours in CSS and I would prefer to do so, but I myself have never used CSS to design a table. But you can just make a series of outlined boxed within the main content box, AFAIK.

STFU. I can make tables in HTML. It's the layout of the page.

Tbh not many people nowadays like html/css pages. Unless you are really good at css. Before you learn PHP, infact maybe instead. I would learn javascript.

If you are intent on building websites for business' then you are better off learning javascript and getting to know your ole friend flash. Its more the design aspect then any backend.

Im pretty sure everyone who learns CSS wants to start a "business" with it. But the sad fact is there is just complete pwnage web designers out there *cough* c0de *cough* doing it for dirt cheap that you just cant compete with.

O btw dont use tables. You can do much better with div/css.

O and dont use Dreamweaver MX (if thats what your using) it doesnt show CSS correctly.

O and I use microsoft expression web. Just download the trial from microsofts website. And go to ANY serials website. Get a serial and it will just "unlock" it.

Wizzup?

Tables can be useful, although usually div's are better. CSS is a must, of course.
There are lots of people doing it for free and open source, I don't see why you would pay anyone for a web design.

They are for big businesses. People on the web are all looking for unique identities now'days. So alot of people are looking for basic websites that are functional, so you dont have to be 'compete pwnage' in web design anymore, only if you want to go into a business doing it for the business. There is a HELL of a lot of Freelance stuff about too, and you just need one or two clean jobs well done.

And why do people still use DW MX, DW CS3/4 has been out for quite a while now..

Also, I'm building a website atm that has an image upload/view type deal. For reference photos for a major online business.
