Hi, I'm kind of new to Ubuntu and I really want to browse the internet with it.
I have the Windows XP driver for my D-Link DWA-120 Wireless USB Adapter, and I used "ndiswrapper" to install it (shown in this tutorial: "https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper"). Ubuntu

says that the driver is installed, but no hardware is present even though my USB adapter is plugged in!

I've done this with Xubuntu, Ubuntu 64-Bit, Ubuntu 32-Bit and no luck!

If my system information has something to do with it, I have:

Ubuntu 8.10 32-Bit
AMD Athlon x64 Dual Core Processor 4600+ 2.41 GHz
2.87 GB of RAM
D-Link DWA-120 Wireless USB Adapter
Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Thanks in advance!

You could reset the hardware that surrounds the hardware ports.

I have Linux set on my vitual drive and have never heard ndiswrapper.

Can't help much.

Yeah, sorry guys. I have an account on like every single forum site, but nobody even looks at the thread.

Ubuntuforums.com won't even help!

This is the only forums site where people actually respond to threads (lol).

are you sure the driver you installed is supported? Maybe you will have to find a linux driver for that router

Its a USB wifi card.

And the driver is unsupported only in 64-bit Ubuntu. I have 32-Bit.

Wow, I actually have a DWA-130, but I haven't even tried installing it since I used wired ethernet =\

Otherwise, all I can say is did you remember to add the thing to the end of your /etc/modules file and reboot?

You could try #ubuntu on irc.freenode.net, they help quite fast. I'm in there quite often too, so we might just meet there. ;)

If you want a linux you could try Backtrack 3 or Backtrack 4 from here
http://www.remote-exploit.org/backtrack.html

It recongized my wireless adapter right away and it also used for L337 HAXOR SKILLZ! But no seriously I've used ubuntu, linspire. freespire, and backtrack. I've had way more use out of backtrack. Just my two cents...
