Did they work before?

What OS?

Front or back port?

Right click My Computer, go to manage, go to device manager, any yellow "!"s?

Could give us some more detailed information about your pc?
Did you updated the drivers recently? Are there still things that work on your USB(a mouse for example)?

He said the usb flash drives still work, just not his palm or external..
I've had this problem it usually happened to me when one of my usb devices failed...(For some reason it caused every front port to stop working..)
I fixed this by restarting, however your problem could be completely different.
It wouldn't be the bios, as the flash drives still work.

Perhaps a corrupt driver? You could try reinstalling the drivers of your palm...

My computer does the exact same thing with my webcam, bamboo doodle board, and TVPC Cable. I just keep trying.

USBDevView (by Nirsoft) might be able to help you; it allows you to easily uninstall USB drivers

Although this probably isn't the problem, but there is always a possibility.

It may be that your USB ports are fried. This is especially caused by when you remove a device without ejecting it. When you unplug it without ejecting, it is still being powered, and a small spark is created in the port, thus after enough sparks, the port dies.

From previous experiences of this happening, I have seen them where they will work intermittently for a while, and then they will completely die. Use a different port, or find a port that works and use a powered USB 2.0 hub?

Good luck

Just to make sure, are the devices that you can't get to register functional on other computers?
