I have gotten vista and i found out my wireless router isn't compatible with it and I want to switch back to XP. The thing is I don't have the uninstallation disk. When I start my computer it asks if you want to go to an earlier version of windows but when i do that it asks for a disk or it ask for a password that I don't have. It's not a previous password either. I have Window Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

Reformat the harddrive and use an XP install disk...

U dont need to reformat first. U can just put ur XP disk in and then select the option to reformat the HD.

Or, you could reformat the harddrive and insert the XP disk, which would do the same thing, except it would give you a few minutes to change your mind.

What router do you have? I would be willing to guess that it is fixable with some drivers...
theoretically.. you could get it for free.. >.>

Not theoretically; he could if he knows where to look.

It should be very compatible. Be sure to get the latest drivers from Windows Update or from the hardware manufacturer.
What do you mean by "not compatible"? I saw this "i have a router that is not compatible unless i buy the wireless plug in and i'm not spending 70 dollars. ". From what i can make sense of this, it means your router has some sort of wireless encryption (e.g WEP or WPA) that your wireless card cannot make sense of, but i doubt it.

I think he means that he could get it for free, but it would be illegal... So yes, if he knows where to look.

If a router isn't wireless then it isn't a router at all :D

lol no i have a wireless router and Dan's The Man is right unfortunately there is a encryption on it its WEP. I talked to the Linksys people and they say that windows vista is not compatible now i would really like if i can have some that would explain in detail how to reformat or whatever to get XP back because i would really like some help and not that crap that the manufacture's say. Please don't ask what they say it involves costing money.

its linksys?
plug an ethernet into it
go to http://192.168.1.1
(it might prompt you for a name and password, if it does type in "admin" for the pass (nothing for name))
turn off wireless password or something
Not positive if those are correct, but google knows all.
EDIT, yea, its correct (just checked with my linksys router)
When you get into the config menu the encryption option is under Wireless>Wireless Security
Set it to "disabled"
Then anyone should be able to connect to it, assuming they have a b or g or whatever it broadcasts in wireless card.

1. Somehow get XP onto a CD
2. Reboot with CD in computer
3. Follow steps until the part where you choose what partition to install XP in
4. Delete Vista partition, and install XP in the free space
5. Wait until it's done

bullz has it right...you just gotta get an XP cd, then put it in, and do what it says. Simple.

if you want to find xp to download then use the almighty search engine GOOGLE!
you will find plenty of downloads for it
then go to keznews.com to get a crack for it to get rid of the WGA (windows genuine advantage) popup annoying thingy that stops you from getting all the updates

Haha, what bullshit! Vista does support WEP on more routers and adapters than XP. Either try a different encryption (WPA) or remove it, if you want your wireless.

It will not make any difference if you install Windows XP or not, since your adapter doesn't support the encryption your router is using.

yeah your adapter won't magically change by re-installing XP. just go get a new adapter there like from $20-70 i think, or just run it wired. or remove the encryption.
