I'm a noob at guitar and have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to.

How to read the music?

I can read tabs but the songs I always want to play give me something like

Em Dadd6add9
On the first part of the journey

Em Dadd6add9
I was looking at all the life

I realize that I have to play an Em and D... chord. I just don't know the order and can't figure it out. Am I just supposed to listen to the song and figure it out. If so does anyone have a solution to tone deafness?

...The song is A Horse With No Name by America...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The 'add9add6' is a different chord to just a D chord. Here is how to do a D add6 add9 chord. (http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/index.php?ch=D&mm=6add9&v=0) As for reading the music, you play from left to right along the line of lyrics, so Em first then D add6 add9. You do have to work out when the chord changes exactly though by listening to the song. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your help.

I am still a little frustrated that I have to listen to the song to learn the pattern (I suck at hearing different tones and sounds).

Do you know of any sites that would have the pattern listed?

The problem with tabs is that you don't know the rhythm unless you listen to the song. Here's something that might help:
Download TuxGuitar,a free software, and you could go to http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ and download tabs that are for Guitar Pro. TuxGuitar could open those, and there, you have the tabs and they could be played back.
