Hey guys whilst running my scar scripts and even RS by itself, my fans whir like there's no tomorow. is there a way to turn these down without just buying water cooling? thanks....

btw i have a custom xw4300 (HP) workstation if that helps

You can turn off the fans with this, or turn them down. it is NOT recommended though, as your CPU can overheat and explode.

Your best option is to either buy new fans, a better cooling system, or live with the buzz. (Last option is the best).

Or just buy an aftermarket cooler for your CPU.. something a larger heatsink with a quieter fan than the stock cooling.

Check out newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) and post back or pm if you're not sure quite what to look for.

The main causes of noise from desktop computers are from the CPU, the Hard drive and the GPU. CPU's and GPU's make a lot of noise because they require big fans to operate under ideal conditions. Hard drives make a lot of noise when you write or read. Some thing you can do to make your computer quieter are

1. Improving air flow inside the case (rearranging wires)
2. Buying more efficient fans and heatsinks (for fans, bigger = better)
3. undervolting your CPU (will slow down your cpu, only do if you mind taking a performance hit)
4. Upgrading your cpu
5. Buying a better case
6. And if your hard drive spinning is driving you nuts, cheap solid state drives can be had for a decent price if speed is of no concern
7. Buying thermal paste and applying the new thermal paste
8. Cleaning out the dust

I would not recommend reducing the speed of your fans, seeing as how this may cause your hardware to ... ahem, permanently expire :P.

You may want to buy RAM.

I'd suggest buying a new heatsink, like smartz and capricorn said. It should bring the noise level down quite a bit. Something like this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134) should work well, as it provides a lot of cooling without having to take your motherboard off to install it. Whatever you do though, do not lower the fan speed or turn the fans off. Your CPU will probably melt and damage your motherboard.

You may want to buy RAM.

Though many people think that RAM is the answer to everything, more RAM is almost never the answer nowadays (on semi-modern computers of course). Especially for noise problems.

I would also suggest this heatsink - I own one. I can't tell you how much it dropped my temps, because I've never had the stock cooling installed on my pc, but with this heatsink, my temps stay around 30 Celsius.

I own it also. I haven't used a stock one either. But it's great -- keeps my CPU very cool under a lot of load (OC'd to 3.9ghz, stays under 65c), and drops from ~65c to ~40c in about 1-2 seconds. Installation was very easy.

spam spam spam minus rep!

i mean seriously, whenever someone sais "MOAR RAM!" i think of a picture of a cat on its back playing with the insides of the computer, and some text said "i upgraded ur ram". ITS SO USELESS TO POST THIS, plus i already have 3 GB of ram

Which operating system are you running? If vista, you can turn down the speed of the processor (to say, like 50% of its' top speed). That should be enough to run SCAR and RS, keep your fans down and help save the environment (less power usage) ;)
