You know, I was thinking exactly the same. And neither could I understand the tuts :p But after tons of trying and studying of (easy) scripts, look where I am now! :)

start slowly, here's a list of the things you should propably learn in this order:


1) a script that repeats a text "Hello world!" in the debug box every 2 seconds
2) tree finder: a script that finds a tree on the mainscreen, moves mouse to it, and if the tree is found it prints "Tree found!" to debug, if not it prints "No tree :-("
3) I: make the former treefinder to chop a tree
II: make it chop trees until your inventory is full, and then make it drop
everything in inv and repeat this all over
III: make it use declareplayers (tut island)
4) Make the treechopper script do some anti ban procedures, like turn compass to random directions every now and then, or change between gametabs. Don't forget to use FindNormalRandoms; !
5) When this script can run smoothly for long periods of time (lets say like 30-45 min at least) make it use multiple players
6) Make a cool progress report to your script
7) Now you just find all bugs in the script, fix them, and read more tuts and thing what you could do to make it even better! and when you think you're ready, read more tuts! :)

Edit: I hope I'll learn it in the end, because this has been one of my biggest wishes to accomplish the last years, but I didn't really get to start learning it. And it would be so nice to actually make a useful script.

For me at least, I could never really understand the tutorials, so I just jumped right into scripting and tried to get what I could to work with the help of some others here at SRL. A good way to learn is to look at other people's scripts to learn the basic functions and then you can try to piece them together into your owns script. (Don't copy what they do though, write it all out yourself with your own parameters) :D

I recommend looking at other scripts to see how functions are used over reading tutorials. Maybe that's just how I learn, though.

Tutorials are good, but they only give you one situation. Gathering information about a specific function from several scripts will allow you to understand how it works better.

Yeah, it took me a year to even know what variables and constants were. After 2-3 months of understanding it, i wrote my first banking script. My Sharker :3
