View Full Version : How to remove all traces of MSN off my computer?

Hi, I have not been able to log into MSN for quite a bit because I put a weird character into my status message, making me insta disconnect. But then, when I try to reconnect, it reloads the old message which is because it is cached in my local program, making me fail to sign on. How do I erase everything in relation with Windows Live Messenger 2009? Uninstalling did nothing, it kept my user login info files.
tl;dr, where are the MSN user info files located, and how do I remove everything in relation with MSN Messenger 2009?
Thanks.
I fixed it, thanks.

I assume you attempted to remove the Program Files folder? (The MSN one)

Yes, the user info files are not there.
&& they are not in the C:/Dox and Settings/Username/Application Data/ folder either.

C:\Documents And Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\<EMAIL>
C:\Documents And Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\<EMAIL>
C:\Documents And Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live\<EMAIL>
That does it.

I couldn't find the majority of those directories, and it didn't help when I deleted ones that were similar to it :(

No, all hidden files are shown.

It works on another computer, that's why I am trying to remove all MSN traces off this one...

It's on their servers since when you log in from somewhere else, you're screwed.
If you are lucky in the registry.

Start - Run
%appdata%\microsoft
Find a folder called MSN Messenger and delete it?

I'm pretty sure it's on the server...
When I got to another computer and sign on msn (a computer I've never been on) it auto-loads my status message and picture for me.
edit: just use a different client, like pidgin or something, or one of the browser clients.

It does not save the personal message (the character which EOFs me).. I know as I am able to use it on a different PC.

I always backup all my files on an external hard drive and completely reset my computer if something like this happens :P. It could be a problem in the system registry also too.
