I used to like McAfee, but I use Norton now. Nortons a real CPU hog, but it gets the job done. I'm sure there are some cracked torrents out there for it.

I like Prevx 3.0 myself. Unfortunately, there is no real free version (the free version will only scan. It won't remove anything it finds), and I don't think it's ever been cracked. But a year long license is only $25 ($30 with active scanning), which is nice.

How come I can always guess what your post on these virus threads are without even reading your post?
Best internet security is common sense, Linux is almost as good.
I use Kaspersky when I use Windows, I haven't come across any problems with it.

The Man asked for the "Best Security", so I told him about it...
If you can guess what I am going to post, that only implies that you also know quite some stuff about security. ;)
SELinux would be more secure, but meh.

Well, the best security would be to do a clean install of almost any operating system, then never connect the computer to anything ever again.

If you are into free legal stuff that works, try these. =D
http://www.superantispyware.com/
http://www.malwarebytes.org/ <<< I prefer this one
Both these free software will scan + remove harmful stuff. Also free continual updates! ^^. Hope this helped.
ps: these will not conflict with firewall because the free version only contains scan, update, quarantine, removal, logs.

Common sense and Kapersky.
Norton is good at what it does, but kills your CPU at the same time.
AVG = pwnage. Downloaded subscription till 2018 for free!

I think Kaspersky, McAfee and Norton are all good at babysitting your MicroSoft (tm) Windows. McAfee eats CPU, but I don't know about Norton and Kaspersky.

KAspersky and NOD 32 and the best for windows. They detect the most definitions and use low resources. Used both i prefer kaspersky, just the GUI is easier. This was on a pentium 4 4.0ghz and 2gigs ram. O and kaspersky was verison 7.xxx idk about 8. otherwise go Linux or Mac but mac not so much.........
They both constantly scan your whole system and object before they are opened.

If you want free or want to pay, I say the best firewalls is either Commodo or Online Armor Personal. I do not advise Commodo for ppl who are not that tech savvy as it allows you to be able to control everything !

I've used Avira & Comodo for some time and everything's working fine :) Of course if you have NAT like I do it's much less probable that you get viruses without your own action, meaning that no program can connect to or from your computer without you opening specific ports for it.
But still Avira and Comodo are good, lightweight and free! I wouldn't use any paid programs since they tend to be heavy and free ones do just the same thing.
Of course there are many other good and free softwares out there, like Zone Alarm and Avast! Pick one that you like the most! I've heard that AVG is not one of the vest scanners, now don't hate me, but that's what I've heard...
Hope you find one that suits you best!
EDIT: Some of you said something about common sense.. It is good ot have, but even if you use common sense you can still get viruses... but you still need anti-virus and firewall even though you have common sense.
Mrpickle, those are not anti-virus softwares, those are anti-malware and such, those are good, but with them you still need anti-virus and firewall. I've used Zone Alarm security suite for some time (cracked), but the scanning was really slow, I really mean it, otherwise it was good. Had to stop using it because there were no working key generators for the new version

Personally, I use linux. If you use linux then you have nothing to be worried about. However a long while ago when I used windows mainly, I would be good with just AVG. Usually the antivirus doesn't matter because even though I have AVG I have never gotten a virus in my life. EVER. So as long as you're smart with your internet (don't download something if you don't know where it came from, click on an ad that tells you you can get a "free" scan of your computer, etc) you should never have a problem. However a better solution is switch to Linux.

I heard NOD 32 was really good but I never used it. Kaspersky is a really good antivirus, but I have troubles deleting viruses. Once I couldnt delete a virus on my user because my mom's user detected it. It took like 30 minutes after I found the virus on my user to go onto my moms user and delete it. The virus was a maulware dropper and in the 30 minutes... I had over 10000 pieces of maulware... pretty scary. I was getting 10 a second by the last minute before deleting the dropper.
I use AVG free. Never had any troubles with it and been using it for a year now. Found and deleted all viruses fast. Really secure. Link scanner, email scanner is a nice addition. I want the Pro addition, and recommend it. Look at the features.

Free AVG.
They also have a pay version which is around 3x as good. ;)
Low CPU usage [except when scanning, ofc. ], and a good product.
Of course, switching to Linux solves everything, as well. :D

Best one by vote and by examination was G-Data (http://www.gdata.fr/) ... Kapersky was n°2 :).
