Hi, basically I am looking for an easy, cheap, advanced router to install dd-wrt on. I saw the Linksys WRT54G, and I guess that would be best, right? 49.95 on Amazon. If someone has a better suggestion, link me please. I was wanting to install the "max" version of dd-wrt, like the one that has all the [sometimes useless] features :p

So, anyone have any suggestions on the best, least expensive router that has at least 4 Ethernet ports, WLAN, etc, and allows dd-wrt to be installed on it easily? :D
Also, high-range WLAN would be awesome too, though only a few people use it, I usually use eht0.

Thanks.

I've seen a lot of people saying that the WRT54G is the best. You might want to take a look at this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124190) too though, as apparently it's a higher model of that router, and is marked down to the same price.

Hmmm, that would support the "max" version of dd-wrt?

Here's a cheaper option, the Airlink AR430W.

And the flashing instructions...

I hate Airlink, never had any good quality stuff from them.. a WLAN chip I bought for my mum died after ~3 weeks, with minimal use. Also, I easily can install dd-wrt on the Linksys one via their WebUI, which is a plus for me.

Okay, I was looking at the pictures for the WRT54G, and where is the coax cable port on the router?

Not? Just plug the router @ your cable modem?

Right now, a coaxial cable connects to my router directly, not going to rewire my basement with a different cable :/

Any adapter I can use to connect the coaxial to the WRT54G?

Just use the cable modem your provider gave you? As in:
Computers ---> Router ---> Modem ----> Interwebs

It was setup by default though like 6 walls with the coaxial cable that connects to my router .. it would be so hard to connect an Ethernet cable to the modem. :/

Really, there is a port for this on the WRT54G?

K, well I just bought the WRT54GL..

My current router doubles as a cable modem. So the coaxial plug works. So I am going to use the WRT54GL, change my current router to "Bridge" mode, plug an eth0 from the bridge mode into the WRT54's "Internet" cord, then plug the eth0 from the WRT54GL into my PC.

That should work, right? :D

I have the wrt54gl, works very well, never drops a connection and I haven't reset it in 5 months.

edit: and yes, I think your set up will work, just using the existing router as a modem.

If you want any help in increasing your WLAN area, feel free to talk to me. I used to be really big into modifying/building for WLAN antennas and such. <3 18" Satellite Dishes that Dish Network uses. They work amazingly for antenna's.
