Can it be detected if you use a client like SCSS that blocks the adds? Or is this just another bluff by RS?

It can be detected, Jagex has been compiling information from the world switchers from months now, and they emit a code that is irregular/not seen in IE or Fire Fox. Plus, you get from 1 world to another with an almost 30 second wait, so thats another identifier :p

Well... You can circumvent the 30 second thingy by adding a random time after it, but I'm not so sure about the code. Is it browser or serverside based? Or, is it the java applet?

Im thinking they can differenciate via the Java applet. The World Switchers must send out a slightly different code/order of code, making it detectable by Jagex.

World switchers are infact not detectable, or at least most of them, because they use a programming language where the program acts like brower and goes through all the steps to get to the rs applet, hence making jagex thing you are using IE.
