Hi guys, I think this is the correct section >.<
OK, I was wondering...
Can I use my external hard drive: WD 1TB
and plug it into my xbox?
So instead of using the official xbox hard drive to save games it uses my External Hard Drive.
Cheers

I dont think so, Im almost certain they designed it persifictly for the microsoft type harddrive. So people dont just buy a 150 dollar 1tg hard drive instead of buying microsofts 120gb hard drive for 200 dollars or something.

I think you have to take apart an existing one, hook it to a computer and maybe hot swap all the stuff on it to a new one to make the xbox think it's a good one
I've read some tuts about it online a few years ago.

External drives cannot be used for saves or anything DLC related.
Only thing you can use is a memory card. (Like 16MB lol...)

that's what Microsoft wants you to think. With enough work you can swap out the 360 HDD and put in a different one (in the HDD enclosure)
at least you could back in the day.

Can't save games with this one, but good for movies/music:

No its what is fact. You cant use external drives to save save games, DLC etc.
If you modify the drive/firmware then yes, but thats not an external drive

but it's not internal either...it's a clip on to the top. So technically, I would call it external to the xbox. Unless you're talking about it not being in an enclosure, then yeah, I suppose it'd not be external that way

Guy above: Thats good for you. I'm sure you will have to go back to that
You can do this, but you must flash your firmware.

No you cannot use an external USB hard drive (that would usually be plugged into a computer) to save games etc. You can however save some money by getting a particular 120GB WD drive and swapping out your 20GB from its plastic case.

You can make a internal drive into external for xbox if you want :p As far as using 1TB it is possible: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/632254 Me and my friend modded a few xbox's for fun and did use a 1TB once.
