Hello!
I'm managing an ebay store/website for a friend of mine, and I was wondering if you guys knew any techniques that could increase traffic to websites?
I appreciate any help I can get on the subject :D
Thanks!

Yea, I've been doing IM off and on for about 6 months now. Tbh, to get any traffic at all you're going to need to get a real website and integrate it with your ebay store. Even just a couple page site with info on the product you're selling, helpful consumer tips (like don't get scammed by buying these products, ratings on other products [with yours at the top, of course :p]), etc. Then, you can start trying to drive traffic to that site, which will translate into traffic for your eBay store. Use the following methods:
-SEO: Optimize your site for search engines. Google likes two main things: original content, and good backlinks on high PageRanked sites. So focus on writing quality, original articles about your industry, include ratings and consumer tips, scam alerts, general industry news, etc. After you've got a good amount of content (about 10 different articles, an about us page, and a page promoting your store with a link to your store should be enough), you can start focusing on getting backlinks. To get backlinks, well, there's tons of ways to get backlinks. You can buy them, of course, or you can get them naturally. To get them naturally, you can do a ton of things: article marketing (write articles and post them on guest blogs and article sites, include a link to your site in the article), comment posting on dofollow blogs (find related blogs, post good comments with a link to your site, you can find out more about what dofollow is by googleing it), releasing a press release (let "the press" know that your site is open and ready for business, submit it to major news blogs and post it on free sites), and even ask bloggers you know to write a little blurb about you.
-PPC Ads: This is basically buying targeted ads that will show up on related search engine searches made by real people. The most common program that people use to do this is Google AdWords. You have to be wary of two things before you start though: PPC Ads are EXPENSIVE, and you must do a lot of keyword research to get the right audience for your ad. Keyword research can be tough, and I'm not really going to explain it because it'll take too long, but go to the Google AdWords site, and they have a free tool you can use to make sure that you're targeting the right keywords.
-Viral Marketing: This is the new hot way of promoting your site. Invade the social networking and social bookmarking sites. Get a facebook, myspace, twitter, etc. account, and submit your site to services like StumbleUpon, Digg, Reddit, etc. Submit videos to youtube showcasing your new products and their features. Make sure everything links back to your site. Eventually, you will get some good sales, and if one of your submissions or videos goes viral, you could be in for a ton of money.
-Email Marketing: This is still the king of getting sales. Do something like creating a free report or gift, and giving it away. It should be related to your industry. In return, get the user's email address and name. For example, on your site, make a popup that asks for their email in return for a free guide on how to not get scammed on ebay. Most people would jump at this free opportunity. Once you have the email, send thm weekly or bi-weekly emails on new products you have, or lower prices, or other interesting stuff. The trick here is to mix free tips and tricks with ads for your store. They'll appreciate the info, and probably buy things as a result.
That's pretty much all I can think of now. Just start trying things, see what works and what doesn't, and adapt accordingly. You'll be rollin in money in no time, lol. Good luck :)
