Well think more advanced, brick breaker isnt the hardest of games to attempt. Kinda like what i am making now, (if i wanted i could change to brick breaker easily :) )

Why don't you stick to Flash for 2D games?

If you use a game development engine, like http://gdk.thegamecreators.com/ (Dark DGK), it should actually be even more simple making a 3D game than to make a 2D game without anything.

.. although, if you're persistent on making a 2D game in C++, get the engine anyway. It has pretty good support for most 2D game-related things too.
