View Full Version : Internet Connection

Been losing connection a lot lately, almost positive it's from the wireless adapter, I unplug it and replug it in and internet comes back after a few secs (after going through what it needs to in order to reconnect). It is almost always, if not, always hot when it happens, so I think it's overheating, most likely.
What can I do to fix this? I turned on my room fan and have it facing the adapter, didn't think it'd do much, but it seems like it's working, hasn't lost connection in over an hour, and when I first got home, I lost connection after a few mins. Any solutions? other than buying a 3rd wireless adapter (first one got the part that goes into the usb port bent, would lose connection often from it being pushed to the side, guess it wouldn't connect to the computer sometimes)

hehe. secs.
sorry.
The only thing i can think of is your adapter is old and needs to be replaced. Sorry, but i can't think of anything else that can be wrong :(

It could be malfunctioning because of the heat, turn your computer off for an hour and let it cool down. Turn it back on and see if it keeps dropping out after that (or see how long it takes for it to turn off.)
Maybe clean the dust out of your computer?

This used to happen with me, it was caused from my router (shitty belkin one) since ive got a new one (Billion) its been working really fast especially with wireless and no cut outs.

Oh, yes I forgot to mention turn off your AP and clean the dust out and leave it off for at least an hour (So it cools down) then turn it back on, plug it in and then connect to it and see if it drops out. If it still does then it won't be a heat problem.
Just curious, was the access point already owned before you brought it?

it was already owned, to us, the access point as in router, right? we had it for a while now I believe. the wireless adapter's new though.

Does your internet drop out when using cable or wireless or both?

Do you have to reconnect the adapter in order for it to reconnect? Cleaning the vents on your case like what cycrosism said I think would be a good idea also.

cycro, I don't know if it drops out for the computer with the router, it hasn't worked in months, the router still works though and I still get connection without the computer working, since you can obviously still get connection without that computer being on :p
but I don't think the connection drops for the other computer that connects to it, it's a laptop though, so it's wireless adapter is built-in.
and there are no vents on the wireless adapter, it's just a little rectangle that connects to usb ports, I have a coord though so it sits on top my computer, since I said bout the fan thing, I always leave it on facing the adapter and it seems to help a lot, I never lose connection now and only do when the fan isn't facing the adapter, it has to be because of over-heating, pretty stupid that I can't use it without a fan to cool it off lol but whatever.

Possible there is a glitch, and needs to be updated.

lol sounds like you are talking bout a script, but I guess there could be something wrong with the router, but I don't think so, since it works when the fans on, it only over heats without a fan.

I mean it's possible that a bug in the router is messing up how it detects the inner temperature, hence not causing the fan to come on at the right time, if at all.

Fan in router?????
Anyway I used to have problems like this and I can tell you right now, it's most likely your router that's old and failing (wireless-wise).
Got a new router, all problems fixed :)

How many things are being connected to the router?
Are you doing some epic downloading?
Distance from the router?
Is it on disconnecting upon closing the lid of your laptop?

I have a desktop, nothing is wrong with the router as far as I know since the laptop connects to the router fine. I believe it is my wireless adapter that connects to the router that has a over-heating problem, and I didn't know wireless adapters had fans... if any do mine doesn't lol, I don't think things that plug into USB's though have fans.
