When I use firefox under Ubuntu it sometimes goes into some form of a full screen mode where the bar that is usually at the top ( the one with the close, maximize and minimize buttons ) goes missing. This makes me very frustrated with my computer and usually causes me to boot back into windows out of annoyance.
Help?

Does it just disappear, or is the window moved up so that you can't see it anymore? If the window is simply moved up, you should be able to drag it back down by holding alt and dragging anywhere on the window.

That would explain why you thought compiz windows manager was an OS :)
But seriously, Tniffoc, try using a different windows manager. Might solve your problem. In my experience compiz > metacity.

This happened to me once when I manually enabled Compiz.
If you don't need the fancy styles, simply go to the desktop, and right click -> change background -> visual settings -> none.
Now compiz is fully disabled. Now if that happens again, you can try `metacity --replace'. It will replace the window manager, hopefully fixing the problem.

On 8.10 ubuntu i think when you press alternate+enter it resizes the window to windowed mode (?)

I used to have a similar problem, but can't remember the exact fix (as there was one). I think it related to unmaximising then resizing it to screen size (as it becomes larger than the screen) then you minimise and restore it (windowed) then switch to maximised and it shouldn't happen. If not this then I can go searching again.

Actually, he didn't state compiz was an OS. He just said Gentoo and Firefox didn't have this problem. Also, Gentoo and Ubuntu are distributions of an OS. The actual OS is GNU/Linux. :)
Tniffoc, I would suggest not running compiz and see if it still happens.
