Hi
Im new to the community(play runescape and am planning on learning scripting here), and this is my question to see kinda how well this community is at responding and if its good i plan on giving back.

Well, im really looking into laptops:

My budget : 3k(3000$)

What i want:
Style - This is a biggy. I know some company's alow you to customize the skins of your laptop with your own logo and stuff. I want it to be as skinny as possible and black(or black and red), i want full customization. I want a transparent pic in the back of my touchpad :p.
I like the looks of alienware, but not the price for only 4 gigs.

Gaming - Fallout 3, L4D2, MW2 ect.

Space - I want at least 180 gigs (500 is what i really want)

Sound - Dont know much, but i want the best speakers i can get keepin it cheap

Graphic Card - Good enough to play fallout 3, GTA and modern warefare2, and one i can upgrade. i was lookin into a ASUS that has a upgradeable graphics dock so it aint like heart surgery.

Warrenty - I really dont care as long as it aint goin to self destruct.

What do you guys think i should get/look at?

Newegg of course. and 3K is A LOT to spend on a laptop! You could make a KILLER desktop for 3k if you wanted. And you can make 3 laptops with 3K all good enough for what you want!

I have never heard of that site before.
Thanks for the link.
Edit: Hmm. These look like prebuilt but crazy good prices, you know if there is a way to add a background image to a touchpad manually?

Upgrade to windows 7 and it will be good to go. I love it. Just be forewarned, with installing Linux (which you might not do), you have to fiddle with BIOS.

Thats what I'm on right now, by the way.

E: You may want to upgrade the card.

I really really like alienware.
But, sence Dell took em over, price went way up and awesomeness went way down.
I guess this would work, is there a option to add a image to the touchpad?

Okay, you need to change your harddrive settings in your BIOS, otherwise you get massive amounts of SPAM in your virtual terminals. But I can show you that if you went that route.

I'm running Karmic right now :) I had fedora on here as well.

Nice, Im planning on buying a 74gig flash drive and making it bootable with Fedora or BackTrack in the future.

What do you think of this? I can customize its skin, and i decked it out to max and its still in my budget:

I like its graphics dock too so i can upgrade graphics cards easily

Exept the quad core has to be added to the price and it adds up past 3k.
Anyone know if its a bad idea to buy a used laptop?

Never buy anything pre-made from dell. Alienware is owned by dell. You get so much less for more money.

As for the warranty- get one. No matter what type, your laptop will get hot. That will eventually lead to problems.

So what would you suggest? ASUS?
